16 year old hoping to not go into college as "The fat kid"

Um.. yeah, my title says it all. I'm 16, and a senior in high school. As far back as I've rememebred, I've been "The fat kid" in one way or another.. but especially in the last two years or so. In my sophmore year, at 5'10, I went from 175 to 245 in a matter of a few months. In my junior year, I managed not to gain any more weight.. but the real change came last summer.. from last june, to now, through a combination of a hectic, fast paced life with my friends, keeping a job, and sheer laziness at cooking for myself, I've lost 45 pounds... right now I'm bordering a pound or two over 200.. when I get below 200 it'll be the first time in quite a while. I'm 6'1 now, and I want to get to a lean 165, and then start weight training. My reasons are, I guess, what you could expect from a 16 year old.. vanity mostly, and wanting to look good with my shirt off, (Gaining 70 pounds in a few months scarred up my stomach and chest pretty badly) and wanting to keep up with my friends. A few times this summer there've been times when the ability to hop over fences, and roofs have become necessary, and although I've been able to pull off this feats marginally, I'd still like to be athletic for once.. just to know what it feels like... Oh.. and I guess I should mention the way I'm losing weight.. it's probably the worst way imaginable... but it fits in with school and work. I just... don't eat. Much. I probably consume 500 calories a day. I skip breakfast, because I oversleep, I skip lunch, because I'm always busy finishing college and scholarship applications, and I skip dinner because I'm at work.. oh, and I skip meals at work because I work at a fast food place, and always lose my appetite. So.. I only eat when I get home from work.. a light meal, and do my best not to gorge myself on that. I also drink a lot of water and diet coke during the day to keep me going. It's working for me however... half a pound to a pound a day, and due to my hectic life I rarely notice when I'm hungry. And yeah.. I joined so I could have people to talk to who would be able to empathize with my weight loss perils... and.. yeah. That's all.

Azaru, As you already know & will hear on this site 500 calories are not enough. So it has been said maybe not to many more people will tell you that. You are young so maybe you won't do to much damage to yourself. The one other thing you need to think about is what do you don when your 160 Lbs. You have not learned how to eat right. So you really need to have a battle plan so you don't gain the weight back.

Also good job on the weight loss so far.

And Welcome.

Hey Azaru,

Sorry to here about your situation. Im 16 myself and let me tell you, I understand life in highschool.

I was reading your profile and somethings really bothered me. For one, eating just one light meal a day is not only unhealthy, but is extremely dangerous. Secondly, did yu know you are actually worsening your condition by not eating? A long time ago when food was scarce for the human being, the body was designed to go days without food. So whenever food was obtained, any excess energy was turned into fat so it could be stored for later usage. But times have changed and society has evolved to where we now eat three meals a day. Well, when you begin skipping meals, as mentioned above, your body become extremly deprived of nutrients, so your metabolism slows down and you begin storing everything as fat. So I beg you to please find some time to eat, for your own sake.

Now on to a solution to your problems. I am part of an international company named Isagenix. I joined Isagenix because of the way it handles every thinkable health issue with 100% natural ingredients such as herbs, vitamins, and minerals. If you are serious about tackling this problem, then I encourage you to contact me by email at roberttyler_06@hotmail.com , and to visit my site at .I would love to help you out and discuss ways for you to reach your lean mean 165! And trust me, its definately possible if you have the right people helping you!!!!

I agree....500 calories a day is not enough. Perhaps you can get some protein bars to gobbled down during the day. The protein will help you burn fat but also contains essential vitamins and minerals. Go to a GNC store and see what they can do for you.

Welcome to the forum! But like everyone has said, try and raise the calorie count. I know you have heard it a couple of times now, but we all want what is good for you, and to have a healthy diet with more substance to it, is the best thing for you.

I know what it is like to work in a fast food place- I worked at one for 2 1/2 years and it was the main thing that caused me to gain so much weight. I just brought food with me to eat on my breaks and tried my best to stay away.

Hi, I just thought I'd add a thought, because I've been in the same place you are in. When I was 16 I was doing the same thing. Not eating lunch or dinner. Sometimes having a snack after school, but more often than not relying on dinner to fill any caloric needs, and usually eating around 400-600 calories a day, unless I went on a crazy binge. And seriously, it messes up your metabolism like mad. I'm 21 now, and even eating like a normal person causes me to gain weight. So basically the moral of the story is that yeah it works in the short run, but if you don't start eating right soon, you're really going to screw up how your body works and consequently your ability to not get fat again as an adult.

Anyways. Best of luck! I wish I hadn't gone into college as the fat kid. But Working on it halfway through isn't...horrible...
