Just found this site might be good for motivation. I'm on day 6 at the moment. Feel a little dizzy sometimes but that's it. I'm surprised I thought it would be a lot worse and this is my first fast.

I have don't so much research about a water fast so I do know what to expect. I'm doing it really for weight loss. I was 161 pound. After 6 days I'm 148 thats 13 pounds :) very happy. The weight will probably be slower from now on I'm guessing but I don't mind. My goal is to get to 133 pounds. That's another stone to lose and think its gotta be do able. After the fast I'm going on a 7-10 day juice fast followed by a 7 day veg only diet. Just so I don't put the weight back on. I'm also changing my eating habits. When I eat normal food again I will be eating 90% veg and 10% fish on a tiny plate so I don't eat a lot. And I'm planning on having salad to snack on every couple of hours. But stop eating completely after 4pm.

If anyone is on a water fast or will be I would love a buddy to motivate each other. I'll post every day on here about the weight loss and how I'm feeling.

Talisa,

I'm going to be honest here. Your post has torn me. We all want successful weight loss but you are going about it a bad and potentially dangerous way. Water Fasts are not for weight loss. Sure you are going to lose weight quickly but you will see yourself regaining it because instead of taking slow, smart steps in a way you can do the rest of your life, you are going to the extreme end.

13 pound in 6 days is extremely unhealthy for someone at your weight. The medically recommended number is 1% of your body weight a week. You lost mostly water which will return and little actual fat. Your body is telling you something is wrong with the dizzy. You are doing a low calorie diet to the point you need to be overseen by a doctor while doing it. The human body isn't meant to eat the way you are describing.

Weight loss is not meant to be fast. Expecting to lose another stone and keep it off is unrealistic. This is a crash diet and I don't want to see you return and exceed the weight you was at. I'm asking you to please rethink this or at the least, talk to your doctor.

BTW: I'm not sure if you stop eating at 4pm because of temptation or if you think that eating late is more likely to cause weight gain. The 'don't eat after X time' has been proven wrong. It's the total number of calories you eat in a day that matters.

you might take this as me attacking you. It isn't. I just don't want to see you hurt yourself emotionally (when the weight returns) or physically (reducing your calories so dramaticly that you cause harm).

The dizzyness is likely a Herxheimer reaction, which means that your body is now releasing toxins back into the blood stream to be expelled by the body. There are too many toxins in the bloodstream and the body is not fast enough to expel them. These reactions do not last long. Typically, fasters do not perform a long term fast without doing smaller ones first. This allows to the body to become accustomed to the process.

I do agree with Professor J in that a fast is not for weight-loss. It is however a powerful health tool that is often underutilized. Good luck with your fast Talisa1234.

It will never work, for anyone, at least anyone doing it for weight loss. And I assume it hasn't worked for you. What happened with talisa, kids, is that he/she tried this fast with all of their might for "6 days." eventually they saw a plate of their favorite food and ate that plate of food in 12 seconds. Then continued on to 5 more plates. Even anorexics aren't so extreme. Your body will eventually force you to eat, regardless of will power. Some might read what I've just said as a challenge, you will lose. Water fast, ridiculous. If you actually did this for any amount of time, you're probably not even drinking enough water anyway. Eventually, you will not get the nutrients that you need: iron, protein, calcium, etc. your body will force you to eat to get them. If you deprive yourself of food for more than a day, there is one nutrient your body will refuse to go without... SUGAR! Long story short, you will end up eating a box of twinkies.

ive never heard of a water fast. certainly not one that is this long. for me it sounds like it would put your body in starvation mode. this mode is not easy to get out of. your body will store everything you eat as fat because it thinks its starving. simply eating doesnt get your body out of this mode. it takes alot of time and usually results in weight gain regardless how you eat. not recommended.
