14 year old Torn Muniscus

To start off, my little brothers 14 weighing roughly 225 at 5'10. 2 weeks ago he got into a fight at school, twisted his leg wrong when he got a kid in a headlock and i think he tore the muniscus. I thought it was his ACL but he is now able to walk. The first 2 days of his injury he couldnt even get out of bed.
I need to find a way for him to excersize because his weight isnt healthy and im scared he's going to get hurt worse. What excersizes can he do?
Is he too young for weight lifting?
And whats the best way to reduce weight in his gut?
Walking for excersize is a negative currently, he is still somewhat on crutches

I am relatively new so take it from whence it comes :

It sounds like quite a nasty injury from what you have said.

"i think he tore the muniscus. I thought it was his ACL but he is now able to walk. The first 2 days of his injury he couldnt even get out of bed."

Have you consulted a physician?
Are you seeing a physio? They give great advice about exercise.
Crutches are a great form of exercise themselves.
When I did my knee in it took me 6 months of physio before I could walk properly never mind run.
I also recall the that maintaining mobiility in the knee while it healed was important, whilst promoting stability of the joint, and the physio gave me some exercises for that too. I wouldn't want to suggest anything without a medical opinion though. Knees are tricky.

I admire your concern for your brothers health but suggest a holistic approach - i.e. lifestyle changes.
This means diet and mindset. He, himself is goin to have to want to change, otherwise no amount of support or help will work.
I recently looked up abdominal exercises and suggest you look up.
Cobras- Yoga
Bridges - Pilates
The Roman Chair

Tai Chi or Yoga are good subtle ways to ease into exercise.

My guess on weight lifting is that it depends on how strenuos you intend going and what you objectives are?

If you are thinking about the Charles Atlas look, then maybe you should consider how it will impact on musculo skeletal development? Since your brother is only 14yrs old.

But puberty sounds like a great time to bulk up to me. (Again I am no expert)

Diet is essential. You are swimming upstream without a reconciling diet with exercise. There is no easy way. Diet has to be considered.
