133 and don't need to lose weight? I beg to differ!

Hi everybody!

I am 33 years old, 5'4", and about 133 pounds although I haven't weighed myself in a few days. I'm tired of too-tight jeans, avoiding skimpy summer clothes, putting sweaters on my lap to hide my thighs, feeling uncomfortable due to my mini-bulges, and STILL having everyone tell me I don't need to lose weight.

I've been 120 pounds before, and it DID feel better, I DID look better, and I'm tired of wanting to get back to that and not succeeding. When I was in my early 20s I worked out and ate much healthier and got down to 114. I do think that might be a bit low for me, but I'll be happy with the early 120s (will I ever!)

I think the hardest thing for me is the influence of my fiancee. He isn't fat (figures!) but eats crappy and is always bringing fatty foods and booze into the house. He stays up really late, and then so do I, and the longer you stay up the more time there is to get hungry again! If I lived alone it would be so much easier (but then I'd...live alone...so....yeah... )

Please talk to me - I would love to motivate each other.
I am hereby posting the least attractive bikini shot of myself that I can find, just to motivate myself to work harder this time!

I'm in the same boat as you!

I was 131, but only 5'2"

I've gotten down to around 120, but still don't feel good about it :(

Good luck with your goals! I'm hoping to someday look good in a bikini, too!

hey I have similar weight goals as you. maybe me can motivate each other and agree to stop eating junk food for say... a week to start? if that's where both of us are having trouble. short term goals are the best way to go since they're not overwhelming and seem more achievable. you need to keep healthy snacks around, such as yogurt, almonds, good granola bars... I'm in need of suggestions for snacks I can bring on the go that are light and very filling if you have any? Good luck! it'll be worth it when it's bathing suit weather :)

I know what your saying.
I`m 5`4 also and when I started I was 137lbs. 0.0
My first attempt I wanted to get to 123lbs.
Made it to 124lbs then came the holidays and went up to 127lbs.
Now I too want to get back down for bikinis and for smaller pants etc.
Started almost 3 weeks ago again , no junk food(cheated once) no pop , and etc.
With lots of exserices and now currently at 123lbs. Aiming for 119lbs then I`m good.
I have faith in all of you guys that you can do it too.
For when I started I was a candy addicted and really lazy.
My only motavation was thinking of my goal and the great reward afterwards.
I hope this helps you be motivated and good luck!

I know what you are saying! I am 33, 5'4", and right now weigh 145. I want to get down to 125/120. Most of my life until I had a child (11 years ago) I weighed, 105 pouns. Now, I know I will never see that again. But 120 would be nice :)

Keep posting I would love to know how you are doing!

thanks!

Thanks for sharing your situations, guys! This is great.

kimmy j: congrats on your weight loss! just remember you've come a long way and you probably just need to shake up your exercise routine to go that extra bit further. or maybe it's a diet thing?

and idon'tknowmy name: congrats also on your loss! 123 is where i would LOVE to be. haven't been there in so long that i don't even know what it takes anymore to get & stay there. 4 more pounds should be easy - good luck!

<3summertime:) nice to hear you also understand! healthy snacks? all of your suggestions are good ones. also: anything with fiber. bran flakes, fruits, veggies, whole grains. stay away from white flour as i am finding the more of it i eat (chips, cookies, white pasta, etc) the more of it i still want! argh. :)

heidilw: 105 pounds before, eh? yeah it's funny how some people who are my height can naturally weigh that low and look healthy. i have a friend who is like that...if she got up to my weight she would look much bigger than me even though we're the same height. anyway, you can totally reach your goal!

EVERYBODY:
why don't we start a mini club on here? keep meeting back right here to share how we're doing, and advice? i think that would really help. i have joined weight loss contests before where you just post your weight every week, and it wasn't enough. but talking to other people and motivating each other i think would help more. what do you think??

here's another beef of mine right now: i can't afford clothes! i recently went from a 9-5 job to total self-employment and although i can't imagine ever going back, i am broooooooooooke! :) i'm doing well for just being 'in transition' but not well enough for extras. i can't fit comfortably into a lot of my clothes (pants especially) but like i kinda don't even like those clothes anyway. i absolutely love the whole 'out with the old, in with the new' mentality, when necessary (not being wasteful) so i'm going to go through my clothes and get rid of anything that doesn't feel like 'me' anymore...even if i have to wear the same few things all the time, at least i'll like them.

sorry for being so off-topic! but please write back and stay in touch!

oh yeah. lol. i realized afterwards that that first bikini shot i posted was taken kind of from below, making my pear shapedness exaggerated! i feel the need to post one more. you guys can post your pics too if you feel so inclined... (i cut my head out for security reasons)

Hey all,

Wow, it is nice to meet people who know that they need to lose weight/ the flab despite being at a weight that others think is perfect for them.

I am 24 yrs old, 4 ft 11" and currently at 114 lbs....but do have quite a bit of flab and still have people telling me I look like I could lose a lot more. My goal weight is 100lbs and due to my broad build and height that would make me look less bulky than I do now. Plus, my goal weight is within a healthy BMI range as well.

Bluewonder, I am glad you decided to start this thread! It feels good knowing other people are in the same boat as me!

Definitely! I'm in! You guys are all awesome!

I could definitely give support AND use support for this journey! I want to reach my goal of 110 (at least) by the first of June! I have 10 pounds to go and since I seem to be at a halt, this could be VERY HARD!

Good luck to all of you!

I am currently at 132 (5'6"), and I want to get down to 125. I hear it all the time, "you don't need to lose weight. Why are you trying". Blah, blah, blah. Great to have people in the same situation. I don't care if I need to lose weight or not. I want to. I want to look better and feel better about myself, so I'm going to lose weight no matter what anyone else says.

It looks like everyone has very reasonable goals within a good BMI range so hopefully those who have people discouraging them from losing weight will recieve a lot of support! I was having some success and now seem to have hit a plateau :S and the gym is closed too early to make it for easter weekend :(. Thanks for the snack suggestions, bluewonder, I always stay away from white flour and things like cookies all together because, as you said, I can't stop once I get started. I think we all have a good chance of getting to where we want to be by bikini season, maybe it will help to check back in here everytime I have the urge to binge on bad food.

cool!

wow, i never knew my feelings would be shared by so many! i'm usually not the type to start a discussion (usually join them) but i'm glad i did.

well, now the discouraging news: i started this thread exactly one week ago and i weigh the SAME! (134) :) why? you are not mistaken...losing weight, even a small amount, is HARD. changing habits (for good that is) isn't easy. i was flipping through a magazine the other day where that comedian Kathy Griffin, who you wouldn't expect to have a hot bikini bod, was showing off her hot bikini bod, and was asked how she got it. Her answer? 'I exercise, and I starve.'

Now obviously she doesn't quite starve, but ain't that the truth anyway?... at the beginning when i cut back on food i always think 'i don't REALLY have to cut back this much, do i?' i always justify that it can't be what i really have to do otherwise it wouldn't feel so uncomfortable. then i think of this fiona apple lyric...

'he's no good at being uncomfortable so he can't stop staying exactly the same'.

baha. ain't that the truth? i'm convinced you have to be uncomfortable for a while when trying to establish change/new habits. the only way is to eat less and exercise more.

i'm going to make myself a nice healthy dinner, enjoy the hell out of it so i don't snack afterwards. night time is my biggest downfall - my boyfriend eats 80% of his food between dinner and bedtime (or so it seems), and it makes me hungry!!

(i am staving off the weight training just for now...i am desperate to get back into the 120s and so i'm focusing on food intake and cardio and once i have established those good habits i will add weight training to get a better shape).

Hey Everyone -

I just want to mention something.
Being 'not fat' but still wanting to lose weight, there may be a bit of a tendency towards perfectionism amongst us. It would be awful to think I encouraged any kind of eating disorder-type behaviour. It doesn't sound like any of our goals would make us too thin, just so long as the 'getting there' doesn't send us down an uncontrollable path of wanting to lose more and more.

Ok, just had to put that out there. :)

I'm down to 132.8....but all that really means is I've had 2 days of discipline, and we've all been there before....so I'm not going to change my 'ticker' until I've reached 130. :)

I realize that I must have been very fit in high school, since I could wear size 1 or 0 and still weigh 118 lbs at 5'2".

I'm almost down to my high school weight, but still can't fit into clothes that size. I must be lazy. I want to look better.

Kimmy J, perhaps the weight has shifted? I know I have more stomach than I did in high school... Or it may be a muscle tone thing. Were you more active then?

So today I'm back where I started. I'm realizing I have a serious problem with weekends. Through the week I will lose a good amount of weight for one week (1-2 pounds) but by the next Monday I am back where I started. I was 134-ish last week, got down to 132.8, and would have loved to continue like that, but now we're back at Monday and I'm 134-ish again. This is so annoying!! Do you guys find that there is absolutely NO room for 'easing up' on yourself on the weekend?

Well I guess now that I'm more aware of it I can prepare better for this weekend.

Hi, I am in the same type of situation as you. I am 5'5 and at 136lbs. I have weighed anywhere between 117 to 150 and im TIRED of the back and forth. I have been jumping from 140 down to 130 over the last year and now with diet , excersize and a vegetarian diet im really trying to get lower and stay there! My goal for June 1 is to be 130lbs. Then 125 by July 1. I love the support in this group, I hope you all sont mind me talking w/ you all!

Kimmy J, perhaps the weight has shifted? I know I have more stomach than I did in high school... Or it may be a muscle tone thing. Were you more active then?

I was much more active in high school, but I think my weight shifted as well. I was flat as a board and had no hips at all! I like my body more now than I did in HS, but I could still lose some of that extra fat!

I, too, am awful on the weekends. Something about the work day gives me structure, which I don't have on the weekends! I'll do good one weekend and then completely terrible the next two!

I don't know what it is about the weekends either. I find that I tend to pig out. I's because the kitchen is right there and I probably either eat out of boredom or stress- which is not good.

Not sure what I can do except to keep myself busy on the weekend......anything that takes my mind off the food.

weekend-ready everyone?

Hey there,

Just thought I'd check in, being that it's the beginning of THE WEEKEND. hehe...

Everyone ready to treat these next two days just like Monday, Tuesday and so on, at least where food and exercise is concerned??

I just got on the scale and it says 133.0, which is better than the 135-point-something I got up to a few days ago. I had to stave off post-dinner snacking the last two nights to make it happen, but I am happy, and I'm going out to enjoy some outdoor exercise because it's a GORGEOUS day (is it really nice where you are too?)

Congrats to everyone's success so far and keep checkin in...
