114 lbs but still have a "belly"

I am 25 years old and I weigh 114. I am a vegetarian. I do not eat any fast food, chips, white bread or sodas.I mainly eat organic. Every once in a while I will splurg and have ice cream. My meals usuall consist of salad, fruit and a sandwich or some sort of small pasta dish. I get the typical "oh you are so thin" typa thing every day but in my opinion my "belly" needs help. I just started the Carmen Electra exersizes with my friend which we plan on doing about 3-4 hrs a week. My stomach only looks good when I hardly eat any fat or in the morning when I first wake up. Does anyone have any advise? This bugs me more then anything (how sad is that) and I want to get rid of it. Thank you....I attached a few pics................P.s. I hope you do not think I am "over reacting" like everyone tends to

Hi Skyler-

You probably need to post a complete days food to get some good advice about your diet. Exercise will definitely help, but the key thing will probably be your diet. Look around the the forumns some also. There have surely been other women with similar questions. Good luck.

You can be very light, but still have a lot of fat. If you lost weight without focusing on building muscle, then you probably lost a lot of muscle. Your body fat % is probably very high.

It is very difficult to build muscle if you are a vegetarian. A vegetarian diet can be a very unhealthy diet if it is not done right. If you are doing it for health reasons you may want to reconsider being a vegetarian because it is much more difficult to get a balanced and healthy diet. If you are doing it for moral reasons, then do your research on how to make the most of such and exclusive diet. It's really all about protein. Yes, soy has some protein in it, but eating to much heavily processed soy can be unhealthy. There are also beans and nuts, but they tend to be high in calories. Sorry, but you really can't get those nice flat abs without a high protein/low calorie diet. You need a very low fat %.

you MIGHT have the same issue a friend of mine had. he is a vegetarian also. anyhow, if it happens to be the same problem, the way he explained it to me was that its bacteria in your stomach. the reason that its flat in the morning is because the bacteria in your stomach feed on food during the day and release gases which makes it puff out like that.

now i'm not saying whether or not you have fat in that area, i'm just saying it could also be something else. if it is, what you'd wanna do is go to gnc or vitamin shoppe or something and buy some antacid stuff to flush out the bacteria/gases. talk to the employees, the ones at vs are usually pretty knowledgeable. or google it.

hope that helps.

If you only do not eat meat, then milk, eggs and other dairy products can supply all the balanced protien you need. Otherwise you need to eat a variety of legumes, nuts, whole grains and other high protien vegetables or you could have a serious protien deficiency which can lead to looking malnurished from loss of muscle tone (like the staving african kids you see the pictures with the grossly distended bellies).

thanks, all good responses.

I do not eat meat for animal rights reasons, and i do not think i can ever eat it again. I forgot about that protien part..I do have some Whey protein do you think that might help?

fr0st I would not be surprised if I had that some issue like your friend, do you have any speciffic names of anything I can get at GNC? You also say get some antacid stuff?

Trevor M.

I am 5'6"

At 5'6" 114lbs is slightly underweight. This probably means that you don't have enough lean muscle mass. Health really isn't about a number. You can be underweight but have too much fat. So you're not opposed to eating eggs and dairy I suppose. Those will be your primary sources of protein. I'm 5'6" and I consider a healthy weight to be around 120 lbs. You can actually weigh more but be thinner if you focus on losing fat and gaining muscle.

so how do i loose fat? I eat eggs as long as they come from "free range chickens, and only organic milk, as the cows are manually milked.

Well, it probably wouldn't be a good idea to try to loose fat right now. You should not lose any more weight seeing as you are underweight. Work on building muscle and gaining weight for now. Once you have enough muscle mass, work on losing fat. Losing fat while maintaining muscle is hard. You have to do weight training while you consume fewer calories than you burn.

if it is indeed abdominal bloating, maalox or mylanta will do the trick. you can get both over the counter at your local drug store. drink lots of water too.

well maybe GNC or the Vitamin shoppe might bee better, I do not take "meds" I try to take the herbal or more natural route. do you have any idea what that would be called or what to ask for? i really do think its bloating.
