100lbs in 2 years and still going

Hello,

I just joined today, all new to this, really enjoyed the posts.
After popping out my second boy 2 years 2 months ago, I weighed in at 230lbs, I'm 5feet 6 inches. Today I weigh 130lbs. It has been one heck of a journey.
I reached my 130lbs target 2 months ago. I knew it would take 2 years.

I remember my first ever work out, 2 weeks post natally and I looked like a monster, and I almost turned around and walked out of the gym, thinking, what on earth is the point? As if anything will make a difference....

I have exercised 6 days a week as of 2 years ago. I do power yoga 3 times a week, and then a combination of weight training and running 3 times a week. It is hard and there have been times where I have been in tears on the way to my workout because I am so sleep deprived and ratty. I work full time too (I'm a scientist) so some days when I'm exhuasted, I'm really not in the mood at all to work out, I'd much rather be smacked in the head with a LeCreuset frying pan, but I still go and I feel so much better for it.

I'm pretty happy now with my figure, although I do need some surgery in the breast area, after 2 kids and 100lbs.....I'll deal with that later, I"m 34 and I'm too scared, maybe I'll wait until I develop my pectoral muscles more, perhaps it will make a difference???

So yes, its been a hard journey, but still ongoing. I don't know about everyone else but maintaining your target is as difficult as achieving it, no? I weigh myself every day and if I go 1 or 2lbs over, I freak out and eat less that day, which is n't always great becuase I have less energy for work/kids/training...

Good luck everyone and keep at it.

Welcome to the forum. You have had an amazing journey. You have children, which is a full time job in itself, and you are also a full-time scientist!! You have worked really really hard. Kudos to you. Look forward to reading more!

Hello Sophie,

Well done on your 100lbs loss in 2 years. It can't have been easy with 2 children aswell. It's inspirational!

sophienaz, welcome to this forum, and that is very, very, very impressive.

I think it would be a great value to this forum that you go into much more
detail about what you ate and how you worked out during those two years.

For a woman to lose 100 pounds is a true achievement, since I know for a fact
that if the metabolisms are the same, a woman will always have a much more
difficult time losing unwanted body fat than a man.

...and I know how difficult it was for me to lose a similar amount of weight.

I really look forward to your future posts, and good luck with maintaining
that SPECTACULAR RESULT!!!

Hi Guys,

Cheers for all the encouraging comments. Its so nice to get positive reinforcement.

Well, what did I do to lose 100lbs in 2 years? PSEPS. Which stands for Pain, Suffering, and Enormous Personal Sacrifice. Pain....from the training. Suffering....from the hunger, and the Sacrifice....losing my lunch hour every day to work out, also on the weekends, instead of having the nap with the babies, I worked out.

Obviously now, 100lbs lighter, it is easy for me. In the beginning, it was a TOTAL nightmare.

There were two things that motivated me to do this...one, the fear of losing my husband and two, the fear of dying from a heart attack and not seeing my kids grow up. I've seen enough times, after a women pops out the second kid, she stays huge and the husband looks around, family falls apart, blah blah. Its terrible because when you are obese and exceedingly unattractive, you have no libido so even if your husband is feeling amorous, the thought of having a shag is about as attractive a concept as being slapped up and down with a dead chicken, as you have no confidence, and therefore no libido.

Now my libido is tremendous and the husband is very happy, as my confidence has soared. And I have a lot of energy for my 2 boys, aged 2 and 4, god they are so hyper, but I always run around after them after work and on the weekends, its so much easier when you are slim and healthy. Obese and running around after kids sucks ass big time.

As for the nitty gritty of getting there, I did a lot of research on training and nutrition via the internet and talking to people. I started doing training 6 days a week and have kept it up, sunday is my rest day. I have a "reward" day, which is THursday so in the evening, I go out, have 3-4 glasses of wine, a couple of cigarettes ( I know, so naughty) and some chocolate and maybe french fries at the bar.

My target has always been 4lbs per month, no more, its a bit dangerous. So I planned it over two years. There have only been 2 occasions when I didnt' reward myself, as i did not reach my weekly target. I figured, my toddlers only get rewards if they have done well, so I will use the same rules on myself. We live in a politically correct age where no one is hard on you anymore, so I have to be hard on myself.

My workouts have always been yoga 3 times a week and the other 3 days, combination of cardio and weights. In the beginning, the yoga was very simple, now I do advanced power stuff. As for the cardio in the beginning, god i sucked, used a cross trainer for 20 minutes and I used those ridiculous pastel coloured 1 or 2lbs weights. Now obviously I am good enough to do 30 minutes of intense intervals on the treadmill and much much heavier weights.

The weight training was essential to boost my metabolism. I hated it at first but the results speak words. as a woman, in my 30's , with 2 kids, the metabolism was non existent, so i had to work at it. On my own. No buddies to train with or get motivated with. Very hard.

I have been taking supplements from day one, Vit C and Cholorophyll as they are both powerful antioxidants and aid in the muscle recovery. Glucosamine and cod liver oil for joint flexibility. THe added joy of chlorophyll is that it makes your poo british racing green, it is hilarious.

As for food, I simply cut down on stuff, didnt' knock anything out. It was all very gradual. I made sure that I cut down on a new thing every month. If you cut evrything out in one go, your body soon adapts and then you are stuck in a platuea from hell, getting no joy in your diet and no fun. So first month, I went from full fat mocha's to skinny mocha's, for example. SEcond month, I went from white complex carbs to wholewheat, much lower glycaemic index, better for you. THird month I quite booze apart from reward night. (booze is evil, I hate how it makes you fat, so goddamn unfair). Fourth month I quit candy. THat sort of thing.

Now all I eat is a mountain of fresh fruit, fresh veg, fish and a small amount of complex carbs, maybe the odd bit of red meat. I had my blood cholesterol, blood sugar, tryglycerides analysed last month and the doc told me I had the "bloodworks of an olympic athlete" so that was the best compliment of my life.

I'm not gonna die and my husband ain't gonna bang someone else. This is a result.

Happy exercising and I look forward to reading more diaries, its all very interesting for me.

Awesome post Sophienaz!

Truly inspiring and motivating. And....if I may add a huge congratulations on all that weight loss! It is unthinkable. I have a hard time lifting a 100lb sack of potatoes and you did it rearing 2 kids....day and nite! I am soooo happy for you!

I wish I could give you a mega rep for that post. Everything you mention from libido, to heart problems to how hard you found it at first and to how long it took....its reality. And the best part...you overcame all obstacles that go along with that reality like work and kids and hubby and managed to keep it all together and lose all that weight!

You are friggin awesome! Well done! Again, a big inspiration and motivator! Thanks sooo much for your update! :)
