1000 daily calorie deficit, no weight loss?

I'm confused and frustrated. I'm an 18 year old female, and I have been trying to lose weight for the past 2 months. While my weight at first slowly went from 163 lbs to 158, it's stayed at 159 for two weeks now. I've been counting calories to maintain a 1500 calorie diet, and I currently run 45 minutes 6 days per week on an elliptical that claims I'm burning 550 calories in each workout.

Over the past two months, I have eased myself into the running with 300 calorie workouts, then 400, then 500, and now 550. I was not doing any sort of regular exercise before I started trying to lose weight. I do know I gained some muscle in the beginning, but I don't get too sore or tired from running anymore, even when I increase the intensity of the run.

The numbers aren't adding up, and I'd really like to know what I'm doing wrong. Any suggestions or ideas? Thanks! :)

P.S. I'm not sure if this is relevant, but for the past week I have felt bloated and a little gassy. I think it's time to cut down on the fiber gummies.

Tell us what you eat and the amount of the food you eat in a typical day.

Here's what I eat on a typical day:

Breakfast: 1 package Quaker instant oatmeal, 1 apple, 1 slice of Kirkland turkey (45 cal)

Lunch: Chobani yogurt, ~10 plain baby carrots, turkey cheese lettuce sandwich on whole wheat bread

Snack: 1.5 serving light ice cream (210 cal)

Dinner: 1 cup grilled vegetables (zucchini, tomato, onion), 3 oz grilled chicken, 1 small potato (no butter)

Snack: 1 cup dry cereal

Besides the occasional diet coke, I only drink water.

Thanks! :)

Pure cardio is not the best way to lose weight.

I know girls hate to hear this but lift some weights! They are not going to make you get "big" you arent going to get buff, youre a female, you dont have testosterone and lifting will not make you into a body builder.

Lifting weights is a great way to lose weight, go with exercises that work multiple major muscle groups. You can do body weight exercises like lunges, squats, etc. Depending upon your size these my be very effective, or grab a couple dumbbells and do squats, lunges, arm swings with those. When I say lift weights I dont mean bench press etc. What I am talking about is dumbbell based or body weight based exercises that promote fat loss. Increasing muscle mass is the best way to lose weight.

Also another tip is to do more anaerobic running. This means run as fast as possible for 1 minute to 90 sec then slow down/stop for 30 seconds. Do this a couple days a week. Also you could find a nice sized hill and run up it that will help a lot as well.

BTW your diet is pretty good, congrats. however once you start lifting weights you will need to eat more protein. Thats not enough calories to truly fuel your bogy. Good luck hope you take this advice

Yes your diet has too much carbs. Its much more complex than just calories. Also cardio is highly ineffective for losing fat...interval training and weight training is the best way to go.
