10 years to live

Hi,

I have no idea where i am suppose to post but this is more of a hope people listen and can relate than a question type post. I was told Tuesday last week i would not live beyond another 10 years by my specialist unless i changed my diet and excercise routine drastically.

Thats a big shock to a 29 year old who just wanted to find out what has been wrong with his liver for the last 3 years. Needless to say i started a low carb diet that day which i am happy to say i have stuck too 100% and the thought of living longer than 10 years is more than enough motivation to say no to snacks and bad food.

I have 3 months to lose 30kg which i think will be tough but the doc doesnt think so but e will see i plan on giving it everything i can, I started the 30 day shred tonight and im so unfit. This was an amazing workout for me and i can feel it in every muscle of my body.

If anyone else has been in a similar situation i would love to hear from you or those who are attempting what i am. Hell even those who can offer some good advise and are interested in how things turn out.

How overweight are you? Is your doctor recommending gastric surgery? Unfortunately, you cannot lose 30kg (66#) in 13 weeks safely as that is almost 1 pound / day. Ask your doctor for clarification on this.

Otherwise, I have these suggestions:

1. Read the stickies
2. Develop a weight training program
3. Start doing cardio in some manner that you enjoy and stay with for years if not the rest of your life. Cycling, running, swimming are options but there are others.
4. Determine your Basal metabolic rate. To lose 30kg (66#) in 3 months (13 weeks), you will have to Eat 500 kcalories below your BMR and you will lose 1 pound / week, which is a safe amount, maybe 2 pounds / week.

+1 Flawless information!!!!

On the psychological front, when we watch cartoons we are said to "suspend disbelief"....in a similar manner we are all aware that we will inevitably die one day, but we tend to relegate this event to some distant point that isn't on our event horizon...so we don't think about it or really worry/consider it. When your doctor told you that you only had 10 years left, he's basically just telling you that you're heading in a very bad direction. I'd imagine he's trying to motivate you.

One of my best friends brother just had a heart-attack. The guy is morbidly obese, has diabetes, doesn't take his meds and seemingly has no care in the world...until now: he's in a hospital, in a bed, barely able to lift his arm.

The fact of the matter is, we all can't escape the inevitable....but we can decrease our odds of a premature departure. For some people it takes a huge scare or some kind of close-call. I'm pretty sure I was heading in that direction as well....and it took the threat of being put on blood-pressure & cholesterol meds, along with the mid-life realization that I may not ever get around to losing weight and getting fit, to give me the motivation to get things together.

Look man, you've had nearly 30 glorious years of eating whatever you wanted and in excess amounts....that was then, this is now. Wake-up call. Please re-read what G8 suggested, it's not rocket science...just plain common sense and a solid dedication to making some changes. It's not an easy path, nor is it a short one....but one you will never regret taking.

Take some pics of yourself now (go ahead, stick the stomach out, roll back your head to max-out the double-chin...do your best to look crazy-heavy-fat) and get started on your new lifestyle. The good news is that it becomes addictive, easier with time and very rewarding....probably one of the best thigns you'll ever do for yourself and something you'll never regret. I just have one question: are you ready for all the hard-bodied gals...well, are ya? ;)

30kg is about 66lbs. With that said, I estimate that your weight is about 250~300 pounds, and you're about 5'9" to about 6'0". Although that's all guesses if the doctor said losing 66 pounds mean you're in the "normal" weight range.

With that said, I was about the same weight as you are now. The good news is that if you never really exercised before, you can easily lose a lot of weight by changing a few things around. First off, just get active. That doesn't mean mountain climbing, it just means don't do things the lazy way. For example, instead of taking that elevator up one floor, take the stairs. That would help tremedously over time. Think in that way: what can I do that doesn't make it easier? Time savers are all over the place, including your car, so if it's possible, try walking someplace. Like if you want to go to the store for some quick items, just walk there if you can. Second, start an exercise program. That doesn't mean going to the gym, neccessarily. It just means going out and doing something. I can be anything, and it doesn't have to be traditional stuff. It could be dancing, running, playing basketball, to many many fun things if you find the gym boring. Third, don't hold false images on what being fit means. This could mean a lot of things, which include idolizing stars. When 300 first came out, this forum was flooded with people who want that look, but did everyone achieve it? Doubtful. So don't stress looking someway, just do it.

Also, one of the key things about liver damage, although I'm not entirely sure, is that it is mainly due to what you drink along with what you eat. So if you're drinking lots of soda, beers, and crap like that stop it ASAP! Just drink water, 24/7, all day. Don't drink those vitamins infused waters or anything like that. Just drink water. Normal water. And yes, it will taste "Blah" at first, but eventually you'll love it.

I think that really depends on just how overweight the guy is; if he's 500lbs then I think you can throw the 1lb per week thing out of the window. For a start, 1lb/week relates to fat loss, not weight, if he's really heavy the doctor might be suggesting he drops lbs regardless of where that comes from as the importance of weight loss is urgent and outweighs longer term concerns.

I personally don't agree with that rule anyway, if I need to drop fat I always drop at a rate of about 3lbs per week without any noticable strength decrease or ill effects. I think 1lb/week is something someone came up with in a lab somewhere rather than real life study.

With the low carb diet I imagine 7lbs will come off in water anyway, that leaves 59lbs in 13 weeks which is 4.5lbs/week. That seems a bit much but as I said, it depends on your starting point, a super-heavy guy can lose weight at a faster rate than a moderately overweight guy

Something just doesn't add up here. If your doctor gave you ten years, why would he need to set a 66 pounds in 3 months goal? Unless you're very morbidly obese, this goal is not only unrealistic, its unhealthy. Even at 3lbs fat loss a week 3 months is only 36-40 lbs. I've been back into the program since february and just now hit 40 lbs lost and I started at 298. If you're not above 400 and you're doctor gave you that kind of ultimatum, I would look for a second opinion. If you have 10 years to live unless you drastically change you're lifestyle, what is dropping 66 lbs in 3 months going to do?

If we don't have all the facts and I'm making a false assumption, I apologize.

3 pounds per week? OMG, I work my butt off and literally have to starve to lose 1/2-pound per week....and you can do 3???

I enviously hate you Typhoid!! ;)

...and maybe you've landed on your head a few too many times, is pulling that chord really asking too much??? :D

Besides, I'm not losing weight....it's not lost, I know exactly where it's going: to my sister inlaws ass! :D

Yeah, we're each given our genetic pro's & con's. Except you FF, most people are given the common sense not to jump out of a perfectly good airplane! , ya ding-dong-aholic! ;)

Btw....your boyfriend Chillen is bbbback! :)
