hi ppl

I currently weigh 164kgs and am 5'2 I have recently purchased a treadmill and What im wondering is will 1 hour of walking a day on the treadmill enough to lose enough weight?

I also have changed my diet to accomodate the exercise which is:

Breakfast - 1 bowl of porridge

lunch - small tin of tuna on pita bread with carrot and cheese rolled up

tea - always changes but is healthy :)

Well for someone your size, even just becoming more active will help you lose weight. I would suggest a diet of around 1800-2000 calories at the moment, which can slightly be adjusted downward as you lose weight, but theres no reason the starve yourself with a 1000 calorie diet.

One hour at a moderate pace (2.5-3.5mph) if you can handle it is fine as you increase your fitness level. If you can't yet do an hour, then work up to it. Try to get some resistance training in as well, either at a gym or think of buying a set of dumbbells.

An hour a day is great! Just make sure that you're ending each hour having felt the work out. I have sometimes tricked myself into thinking that a nice half hour stroll is going to do it for me, and it never does.

Really though, the diet is the most important part of weight loss. In an hour of walking a typical person might burn 200-300 calories, which they could consume in a single snickers bar. You don't want to restrict yourself too much into something you couldn't live with, but it's important to get both diet and exercise on track. 1800-2000 calories is a good goal.

You are not eating enough. At all.

Where is dinner? You are only eating 2 meals per day?

Weight loss is more dependent on nutrition than exercise. Don't get me wrong, exercise is important. It not only adds to the energy deficit, it is also good for your heart.

It still sits in the back seat when compared to nutrition and goals related to weight loss.

That may be a cultural misunderstanding Steve. breakfast, lunch, and tea. here in parts of the UK, 'tea' is often used to describe the evening meal.

Ahh, interesting. Thanks for the clarification.

Still, probably too low in the cals depending on what you are eating at the last meal.

hi folks,
tea = dinner...i do eat dinner everynight. I live with my mate but we do cook everynight. teas we have are burritos, nachoes, tuna bake, chicken salsa, hot dogs etc so we do have variety. I am only drinking tap water and have cut out all soft drinks/soda adn coffees etc.

As for exercise i do 2 30min walks on the treadmill a day. Im really hoping that im gonna lose weight.

thnx

Hello; good on you for one hour on the treadmill.

To reinforce a point made already, don't cut back too hard on calories. Your body will go into starvation mode, metabolism will go low and hang onto every calorie, and you may even gain weight, which will make you feel awful.
To boost your metabolism and provide your body with necessary nutrition, consider eating 6 meals per day, of 500 calories each. 3,000 calories may seem like a lot, but you can't go drastic.

At 5'2" and 360 pounds (164 kgs), depending on your age and level of activity, you may need 5000 calories per day, my friend. To lose weight we need to calculate what we need for calories at our current weight, and subtract a reasonable amount, subtracting a little more every few weeks - not cut drastically to a super low amount right at the start.

Once you lose your first 50 pounds you can re-assess. Or once you're able to bring your walk to a brisker pace, you might re-assess.

Success to you!
