Weight loss/Diet/Exercise query

Hi,
This is the first ever fitness thing I've signed up to. I'm just in need of some advice that I can't really find the answer to, and I hope somebody on here could help me. I'm 17 and I'm terribly overweight. Luckily, I'm 6 foot 5 so its not AS bad as it could be. I need to lose the weight before it gets too late. I can do it now I'm sure of it. Due to the fact that I finish college soon, I have six weeks over summer. During this time I plan to kick start this process. I've done a little research and it seems brown rice and chicken are good to eat. My question is, is it safe for me to only eat chicken and brown rice as a sort of, main meal for these six weeks? Obviously, I'd snack on things like carrot if need be. I plan to hit the gym 5 days a week doing cardio mainly on the treadmill .If anyone could give me some advice of feedback I'd be real greatful. I'm sorry for writing a lot but I need to change myself.
Thanks in advance.

Crash diets which are unlikely to result in long-term weight loss. Its in fact, which can sometimes lead to longer term weight gain. Its the main problem is that this type of diet is too hard to maintain. Our body will be low on energy, causing people to crave high-fat and high-sugar foods.People finally gave in and eat those foods, they will often eat more calories than they need, causing weight gain.

While brown rice and chicken are good for you, absence of other food is not good for you. I don't completely accept the food pyramid (and it does change on its prescriptions from time to time), but you'll notice the presence of more food groups in it than chicken and brown rice, and that there's a lot of different foods within each food group. The body is best fed on a balance of each food group, and with a broad variety within each food group.
