P90X - Has anyone tried?

Hi everyone,

I really need to lose my stomach! I feel that I have a good structure and it has now got to the point I hate the way I look!

I have done various exercises which are just normally jogging and eating well. I lost weight but just would rather tone and lose the belly fat.

I have no motivation and have the can't be bothered, i will do it tomorrow attitude!

A friend talked to me about this P90X workout dvd whereby you can do it at home with little equipment and focuses on muscle confusion. They claim you can have a six pack in 90days.I have looked at various reviews on Amazon and few other places. Don't know if they are real or not but would love to know if anyone has tried this or knows someone who have achieved results.

To me it seems perfect!

Thank you in advance.

Of course you can get a 6pack in 90 days on the program...if you're 90 days worth of progression away from having a visible 6-pack, that is ;) It really depends on your starting point, how well you follow the diet, and how well you follow the program.

"Muscle confusion" is a buzz word made to sell stuff. Muscles don't get confused. However, if all you want to do is tone up and you're generally unmotivated, then programs built around the non-existent "muscle confusion" will at least keep you interested long enough to get results.

Plenty of people have had success on P90X, so I can't say anything bad about the actual exercise content, even if there is a whole lot of marketing BS on top of it. In saying that, I've never read/watched or done p90x, so I can't say anything too strongly one way or another.

The real question is, if you get p90x, will you do it? I personally find that once I've bought a gym membership, I'll be going frequently. To me, home is not a training zone, it's a relaxation zone. So I have to go somewhere else to consistently train. For other people, if they buy a gym membership they'll only use it 4 times, and for the rest of the year it'll just be wasted money.

I have tried the Ab ripper X from the P90X workout, and yes it does seem to have results...rather pleasing ones, actually :) Though I am female, I am working towards achieving a flatter stomach and it really does improve my shape! I would definitely recommend.

Sticking with a program like P90X could be a good source of motivation.
I've done different aspects of P90X before and they're good workouts, they can be difficult though, so don't let that ruin your motivation.

I've heard of mixed results from P90X. It all depends on your starting point. I have a friend who got into some decent shape with P90X and a buddy who actually got weaker from P90X because his regular routine was better. My first friend was not in shape when he attempted it and my other friend obviously was in some serious shape when he attempted it. Just different starting points.

I'm on day 38 of P90X (lean program). It's a great program but you have to be very dedicated. It's 6 days a week, approximately 1 hour a day. You get a great workout but if you're really trying to lose weight, it's very important to keep track of your calories and dedicate yourself to exercising every day. I am getting ready to add cardio workouts to this program to hopefully start losing weight. I haven't been tracking my calorie intake but have cut out all fast foods and fattening snacks.

From what I've heard of P90X it requires you to buy equipment/supplements. This put me off it so I tried GSP's Rushfit program instead. It's an 8 week program that requires nothing more than a few dumbbells and enough room to move around and I can guarantee that it works for both toning muscle and losing weight. I'm 5 weeks into it and I've gone from 71 to 67kg and ALL of my muscle is a lot more pronounced, toned and bigger. It comes with a simple nutrition guide and consists of 6 DVDs (one has two workouts on it).

The workout will start with a 10 minute warm-up which is very effective, followed by 5x5min. rounds of intense exercises. To finish up there's a 6 minute cool-down which also really helps. It's designed to simulate an MMA fight (5 rounds) and a lot of the exercises are designed with fighting in mind, but even if you had no interest in MMA whatsoever the exercises are still really effective for toning the body.

There's 3 different programmes (beginner, intermediate and advanced). The difference is the harder the programme, the more DVDs you will need to do and you'll have fewer rest days. I jumped straight into the advanced programme which is 1 or 2 DVDs a day (and cardio on some days) with one rest day a week.

Hope that was useful.

The backbone of P90x is their nutrition program. If you do just the exercises and you skip out on the nutrition program you will see almost no progression. Getting that calorie deficit that their nutritional programs have is critical if you expect to see any visible muscle.
