Hi All :)

Hello all!

Where to start... Well I am a 28yr old mother of 2 (11 & 8) and over the years I've really let myself go :(
I stand at 5'1" and am 79.5kgs (I am down from 90kgs). I'm honest not sure how I dropped those ponds and was surprised when I realized I had lost weight, but that is also what gave me motivation to get into the gym. Got a membership at the local community center on June 20, 2012 and have gone everyday for at least 60mins (cardio and weight training).

If anyone could please help me out I feel like an idiot because I'm not sure if I'm doing this right. I have changed my eating habits, no more sweets, less sodium, no more fried foods. I started drinking protein shakes yesterday after reading a few forums but am unsure about how much I should actually be drinking daily to maximize weight loss and if creatine would have any impact for me, I'll admit I don't eat as often as I should (usually just dinner).

MY GOAL:
I would like to lose at least 40 - 60lbs over the next year, tone up and maintain a healthy lifestyle. I was fit without even trying when I was younger and now have no idea where I should start or what I should do to achieve my goals. I don't have tons of money to spend on a personal trainer/session so I am sort of hoping someone here could help.

Thank you all for your time and I wish you the best of luck!

XOXO

hi. welcome to the forum. doesn't sound like you are eating right. I would get rid of the protein shake and eat 3 meals / day. You don't get the proper nutrition from protein shakes like you do from a healthy meal. Doing 60m of gym is a great start. Keep that going and monitor your progress (not the scale, but by dimensions)

Cut out the protein....

Protein supplements aren't really a necessity these days, especially for weight loss. They just cost a lot of money and will make you fat if they aren't burnt off. If you're going to spend out on suppliments then go for a meal replacement supplement. These tend to act like a meal (nutrition wise) but have far less calories than a full meal usually has. And the theory is that you go down to 2 meals a day and have a meal replacement shake as a replacement for the third meal. This way you can cut out (depending on the meal and the make of the shake) between 200 - 500 calories. If a typical lunch has 900 calories in, then cut this out and have one of these shakes which may only have 400 calories in. This way you save 500 calories. Protein shakes are bad news for weight loss... steer clear.

As with your exercise, carry on doing what your doing and the weight should come off soon, providing your doing things right. Focus mainly on your cardio, as this is fundimental to weight loss. in my opinion, i think it's your nutrition that the main thing, and this is no fault of your own cos' this is the hardest thing to change. Keep it up!

hope this helps
