New to This and Starting Over & Need Help!

Hey Everyone - These past couple of weeks I have found that I do not have the energy I feel I should have, my concentration is not as sharp and I am continuously tired. This past year has been one from hell (most of it) - Last Nov. I got married to the girl of my dreams, in Dec 2009 she got sick and ultimately received a heart transplant last February. During this whole time I have been concentrating on her well being, thus mine has suffered. I am also diabetic so any meal plans/workouts need to be with that in consideration. I do not feel comfortable going to gyms b/c I am what I consider small (comments from yrs past have stuck with me - petty, yes but its still). That said, I have found that I am not in good shape (5'9'' 150lbs), I realize that my body is probably letting go of all the stresses as my wife has gotten better and better, but I need to do something for me now... AND FAST!

Currently I do not eat breakfast, eat a small lunch and eat dinner b/w 5-10pm - I am definitely one of those that eats to live, not live to eat.

I bought a workout bench/weights/etc last month and am basically looking fory help with both a good general workout plan as well as some good diet ideas of plans for putting on wright, muscle and are good for diabetics. I appreciate any help anyone can give me.

Thanks :)

I can't help you as I know nothing about diabetes, but having a wife go through a heart transplant is big.

The biggest issue with the diabetes is that I need to watch my carb intake, balance out the long acting (breads etc.) with the short acting (candy bar for example) to maintain the correct blood sugar levels...accompanied with insulin injections of course. When starting this process from "scratch" what are the some things you need to concentrate on the most?

If you have diabetes then you must be seeing a doctor. Advice about what to eat should come from your doctor, not a stranger on a forum. The first thing you should start doing is eating breakfast. Skipping meals, especially breakfast is the worst diet plan and will not allow you to accomplish your goals.

In my opinion, start with a good diet recommended by your doctor. Next shoot for a minimum of 20 minutes a day of cardio even if it's just walking at a fast pace. Then come back to this forum for some weight lifting ideas.

I wish you good luck and a healthy 2011.
