Stretching and realistic goals.

Lets say for example a person cannot touch their toes, what is a realistic time frame somebody should expect from not being able to touch their toes, to being able to make their head touch their knee? Say they stretch 1st thing in the morning for 5 minutes, and 5 minutes before bed.

I can touch my toes but not my head to my knees. I used to be able to 10-15 years ago when I break danced a lot, but I honestly have no idea at the time frame it took me to get that flexible. I just remember not being that flexible when I started (never really properly stretched to achieve "flexibility" either), and then my dad telling me how Bruce Lee could touch his head to his knees and I promptly did it to show him I could once during that time period.

I'm looking for a realistic time frame here as to what I can expect as far as progress goes with stretching PROPERLY twice a day. I've realized that I've lost A LOT of flexibility since I've been lifting weights and would like to regain it and even make it back to how I was when I was a teenager.
 
i agree wth gelab!! try a yoga or pilates class too!... and c how that feels....

I know its not a "manly" thing to do but u would be suprise how many athletes and professional singers do this.......!
 
as gelab said, warm up. You will get the most benefit from stretching if you warm up first. One of the biggest misconceptions to working out is stretching first ... stretching should come second, after a good warm up. Even if you don't feel a tweek while stretching first, you can cause injury that you will not notice until you start working out ... you will probably blame it on working out too hard, when in reality, it could have started with your stretch.

As far as realistic goals ... not a clue. Depends where you are at. If you have a lot of muscle and never did a lot of stretching, it could take a long time
