HIIT on an Exercise bike?

Hi all,

Is this possible? I'm getting fit at the moment (a lot more fit that I was a few months ago :D) But I've still got a beer belly, the rest of my body looks quite nice tbh, I've put on muscle and filled out. But my beer belly (it's not that big, but noticeable) is annoying me, and because of it, I've one of these horrible red creases from where the stomach folds (its because I'm tall too and always hunching over) Anyways I want to get rid of this and get even more fit.

So I'm wondering can you do HIIT on an exercise bike? I would do it on the treadmill, but would probably look like a tosser and fall off :p

How would I do it, cycle at a high resistance and very fast for 60 seconds, then stop completely (or do I just dont pedal as fast and at a lower resistance) and would I do this for 20 minutes?

Sorry, for being so niaive, but I'm trying to better myself, but I know no-one who knows any of this stuff.

Thanks a million,

Tim

It is very possbile. One of the best ways to do it short of being on a track.

I usually go all out for 30 seconds then back off for 60. But backing off is not stopping, just slowing down to allow your heart rate to drop.

Great thank you!

I usually do 20 minutes continual pace on resistance 11.

So should I just stay on the same resitance the whole time, and just focus on going all out at the resitance or should I higher the resitance?

Much appreciated.

I focus less on resistance and more on speed when I do it.

Great, you've been a brilliant help. I will try it out tommorow at the gym :D

Also, if you have the time to answer, sort of how long would it take see any noticable changes, assuming you're going to the gym 4 times a week.

Its only I've been gyming, swimming etc for the last 2 months (ish) and i've definately noticed muscle growth on my arms, shoulders, but no real fat loss. oh I've definately seen a noticable difference in my legs, they're well muscled up now, pride of my body haha

Thanks again mate.

There is A LOT more to it than going to the gym. In my opinion to see good progress in a decnt time frame you need to have a solid 3 day a week full body routine, a good HIIT program and a great diet. But in all of this.....if you are being active...diet is the key.

Right thanks!

Well at the moment,

I got to the gym and a swim four days a week.

The gym for at least an hour,

20mins on bike
30-40mins on weight training
10-20mins on tread mill

the a good few legths in the pool for a half hour and sauna before and after it.

If I'm honest, all the excercise I get throughout the week excpet for walking.

Thanks for your help! :)

I saw the ebst results when I was doing lifting 3 days a week, full body. Then some steady state cardio for about 10 minutes after lifting. Then on my off lifting days I was doing HIIT.

I am a HUGE proponent that if you want to drop fat yo gotta pick up the weights. To me cardio is well down the list when it comes to dropping fat. Diet and weights are first.

Yeah I'm focusing on my diet, I never snack anymore, well I do (but only with apples) I eat Lunch and Dinner, and that is it, plenty of water or diluted juice, and pretty much nothing else. Yup I've been doing the weight lifting, and as I say its definately working, I've been getting remarks saying how much better I loko and how much I've filled out, and how much bigger my arms are, but I've still got the beer belly, so thats why I'm trying HIIT as I heard it can burn up to 9 times more fat

So I'll keep doing what I'm doing, but replace the cardio, with HIIT cardio!

I do HIIT on a stationary bike, 1 minute on high resistance (hit 90% of max heart rate), 1 minute easy resistance to get hart rate down to 70% of max heart rate. Do 5 cycles. Total time 10 minutes. After this, I can barely stand up.

I tried it lads, 1 minute full blast, 1 minute going at a leisurely pace, almost killed myself hahah - but I'm gonna stick at it ;)

Thanks.
