New to the forum

Hey guys new to the forum, been wanting to get in better shape for a bit and am finally getting around to it

used to be in ok shape when I was still racing (skiing) but, well 2 years of 80 hours a week on a computer don't do great things for the body (school)

I'm hoping over the course of the next year I can end up able to do

# 1.5 Mile (2400 metre) run in 10:15 or less
# 31 consecutive push-ups
# 33 consecutive sit-ups
# 8 consecutive chin-ups
# 450 metre shuttle run

all in 16 minutes or less

and do a 675 m swim in 20 minutes or less

that's my goal at least

I've started slow for now running 20 minutes a day 3 times a week with some pushups, curls, situps and crunches

all I have at home is a couple dumbells, a treadmill and a Total Gym 1500

wouldn't mind getting rid of the little belly I've had... forever, even when I was in shape too

I don't really know much about excercise other then keeping the heart rate up is when your getting the benefit and that high weight low reps builds mass and low weight high reps builds strength

I'll be looking around on the site a bit more but wonder if you guys have any suggestions for me. (I don't have much money to spend on this and would prefer to use what I have already as much as possible)

also, I don't want to make myself huge like bodybuilders if I can help it, I prefer the swimmer's body :p cause I ride motorcycles and ski and I need to maintain my flexibility

if you managed to read that entire first post (I think my longest intro post on any forum I've been on) thanks and I look forward to hanging out here.

not great

atm I'm walking maybe 2 klicks in 20 min without being overly tired and 20 pounds is what I can do in 3 sets of 10 for curls

uh sorry I just found out my treadmill is in miles not kilometres :newbie:

so thats 2.25 miles in 20 min not 2.25 klicks like I thought

Two ways to get stronger and better endurance: weights and cardio work.

Since you don't have equipment, for weights, use bodyweight exercises, pushups, pullups, dips, lunges. For cardio, start running for as long as you can, walk until you get your heart rate under control, and then run until you are out of breath again. Keep repeating. Make sure you are medically able to do this stuff.

I ought to be medically able to do this, I'm still young and there's nothing physically wrong with me as far as I know, and I get yearly checkups

I also just found out the prices for acess to a gym near my house are decent

it's a full gym and pool (I'm mostly interested in it for the pool) as I imagine swimming laps would be a great workout

if I did this is it ok to swim 5 days in a row, maybe 3 of those days having weight training as well and take the weekends off (possibly weights on saturday but pools closed for doing laps on weekends) or would 5 days a week of swimming be too much
