Sodium Levels

How does sodium affect your diet? I mean I know im only allowed so much sodium a day, but if I eat too much, how does that affect my body and weigth loss?

I wont effect fat loss, but it will effect your weight, some people tend to retain water when they consume sodium, in turn you will weigh more. Its water weight. Salt is necessary, but we tend to over use it.

Brandibeth, here's a good article, bottom line is too much sodium can lead to high blood pressure which can cause cardiovascular and kidney diseases.

Not much more to say than that. There's a lot of controversy as to exactly what levels you should consume in a day, but keep in mind that any number is a general idea, and it will vary by person. Also, it really is just a balance of water and ions in your body, so if you honestly want to eat an amount of sodium that is causing you to retain water, you could simply drink more water and cancel it out

leckbass just about summed it up, but remember that sodium is important if you're active. I'd always want to up my sodium levels before physical activity as you'll crash without it
