Best Fitness Magazine ???

I like Muscle and Fitness Hers. The models in it are all buff beyond belief, but the articles are more informative than in Self or Shape or any of those girlie mags. If I have to read another workout where Im told to lift 5 pounds, or skip over 50 pages of makeup tips, or look at pictures of skinny models in booty shorts, I'll go nuts.

What do you guys think about Oxygen magazine? I had been reading Fitness magazine but once I decided I actually wanted muscles I needed to switch mags, so I picked up a copy of Oxygen in the grocery store one day and I really liked it. Is it fufu crap compared to some of the men's mags?

Dr. John Berardi, Ph.D.

^ better than any magazine that ever has been, is, or will be in existence. Also, it's free. And doesn't waste paper. :)

Get comfortable, browse to the articles section and get your goodness on. <3

Recommend, in this order:

7 habits of highly effective nutrition
Lean eatin' I
Lean eatin' II

If you go to the end of this article:

John Berardi - Lean Eatin' Part II

you'll see that the list of foods to avoid mostly looks very much like what a typical American eats (except that a typical American does not eat much soy, but does eat another type of junk fat, partially hydrogenated oil, in combination with junk carbs).

I am a huge fan of Men's Health, and if Women's Health is anything like their brother company I'd say go for that. For anyone looking to just bulk up "body building" style, I'm an avid reader of REPS.

Can anyone recommend a great fitness magazine? There are just so many on the market. I am interested in weight training and cardio to get the leanest, buffest body, yet I'm not interested in bodybuilding comps or figure comps, but just getting that lean, buff look, the right nutrition, the whole works. I've been working out for some time but want to get to that next level.

What would you recommend ?

Thanks ahead of time!

With regard to general fitness magazines there are two "big" ones. Men's Health and Men's Fitness.

Unfortunately they go in cycles. IMHO for a while Men's Health was an excellent general fitness magazine. In 2007 however, Men's Fitness surpassed them in both quality and content. Come 2008 and 2009 thus far and Men's Health is back on track.

The other magazines out there are really geared to "body builders" although Muscle & Fitness has really gone leaps and bounds towards becoming a great overall fitness and nutrition periodical. In fact, they usually put out one issue each year that has a full-years worth of routines that are geared for any possible goal you could have.

Those are the 3 mags I frequent. I get Men's Fitness b/c my bro-in-law got a free subscription. I'm thinking about renewing my Men's Health sub and I pick up M&F whenever I see an issue on the newsstand that peaks my interest.

I'm sorry, I just realized from your screen name you are more likely female...in that case I would recommend Women's Health or Shape as a general fitness mag and M&F Hers for great workouts.

I'm a big sucker for magazines, sometimes you just want a nice mindless read you know. But i'm smart enough to ignore all the crap like "go down a dress size in a weekend!" or "how to look skinnier for the night! - eat olives??? and do pushups????" there's some weird stuff in there. But I get motivated reading fitness magazines, so I grab them when I see them normally. I like Women's Health and Australian Women's Health and Fitness, and I sometimes get the weightloss ones too. But most of the stuff isn't anything new to me. It baffles me how they can come up with all the stuff for each issue sometimes, most of it is recycled.
