Ultra lightweight guy looking for some pointers.

First off, hello.

I'm new here and also new to fitness in general. I'm currently 24 years old, 5'10" and 110lbs. I've never ever been a big guy and never put on weight. The biggest number I've seen on a scale was 123lbs. Being skinny as a rail is in my blood, my father is the same way as is my sister(28y/o, 5'8" 89 lbs).

So I joined a local gym with a buddy of mine who seems to know the basics and is saying the same things the vets on here say.

But I'm hear to ask the almost impossible to answer for everyone "what should I start with?" I was thinking some sort of Mon-Wed-Fri FBW. We've only been going for 2 weeks and we have been doing a totally random split(yes I read the sticky with the rotuines in it, great resource!).

I also need to work on my nutrition. I've lived my life eating whatever the hell I want and not getting fat. While that is nice I'm now finally trying to gain some muscle. At my height/weight I wouldn't be surprised if I was under 5% body fat, if you want pics to prove my size and weight I can provide them haha.

The 3 day a week FBW will be a good place to start. You seem to have read all the stickies so you should have all the info you need to get started.

You're absolutely right in that you need to get your diet in order. Read up on the stickies in the nutrition forum, that'll give you an idea of how much you need to be eating. In order to gain muscle, you're going to need to eat a lot.

Lift, eat big, and get plenty of rest.

The reason you can eat what you like and not gain weight is that you don't crave food that much and therefore don't eat enough to gain it. Just like the fat person who claims they don't eat much, the skinny guy who claims they 'can't' lose weight is just misguided and has an inaccurate idea of how much he consumes.

I was the same as you until I was about 25/26 when I joined this site, I took advice on what to eat and how much to eat. For a while it was really hard, I was close to being sick almost all day and was having to force extra calories into me in form of milkshakes and such but after about 6 months it got easier, I had more muscle, more of an appitite and no longer look painfully skinny.

In the intro section Tony has posted a sticky containing all the stickies on the site. Take a read through them and pay attention to the nutrition parts. You need to work out you Basal Metabolic Rate and eat well above that. I'd imagine that someone your size should be aiming at eating around 3,000Kcals a day for a month and seeing where that takes you. I can promise you that you'll gain weight if you stick to that
