Two years ago, three different women I knew were injured from running. One of them explained to me that she would never be able to run again and that several of her older friends had given up running a few years prior. I did some research and found out that when you run you hit the ground with about 4x to 5x your body weight of force with each step, which is why your body eventually wears out.
I felt bad for women (and men) who had to give up something that they enjoyed and that gave them their primary form of exercise. I was not looking for a business opportunity, but I started thinking of ways they could get an experience qualitatively like running (on their feet, outside if they preferred from their home or work and back again) and get the exercise benefits of running without the impact.
A couple weeks later I stumbled upon a solution. I realized right away that if this concept were implemented in a less intense way it would be a way for all of us, if we wanted, to get increased exercise while walking around doing other things. I call this "incidental exercise". I realized it would also be a way for people who are walking for exercise to get more exercise from the same distance of walking.
I'm two years into my endeavor to create a product, and I've had to drop the intense level that would be a substitute for running for reasons I can't explain without giving my idea away. I have, however, figured out how to make a product that allows you to burn 25% to 40% more calories while walking around doing other things or intentionally walking for exercise.
I've had a prototype developed by an engineering company. We did V02 testing (measuring oxygen intake) to determine how many calories people burn while wearing this technology and determined that for most people they burn 25% to 40% more calories than walking in standard shoes.
Now my task to be able to deliver this benefit to a lot of people is have this technology integrated into athletic and casual shoes. I'm sure most of you are saying "yeah, right, a shoe can cause me to burn an additional 25% to 40% calories!" but if and when they come out people will be wondering why someone didn't think of this a long time ago.
I've been at this for 2 years and spent a lot of my own money (not to mention time). I'm now to the point where I need some outside capital to get me through this next step. Part of making the case for this investment is showing that there is a market for it. I've talked to dozens of people over the couple of years that would really love to have a pair of these shoes. But they are my friends and I need some unbiased data and a larger, more diverse data set.
I have created an online survey:
It would be a big help if people filled out the survey.
Thanks in advance,

(Moderators - this is all true. I am not selling anything. We don't have anything to sell. You can check the site and see the survey is the only thing on it. I hope in the interest of helping me deliver these kinds of benefits to people that you will keep this post. If you have any questions about my motives or intents, please contact me at the email address that is a part of my account).
