I just registered. I am ready to get back on track. About four years ago I lost 115 lbs. I worked out at the gym regularly, rode my bicycle, and walked whenever I could. Since then I lost my business, got discouraged and gained back half the weight I had lost. I stopped going to the gym (except occasionally when I felt guilty). It's time to stop this destructive behavior. I know I can do it because I have proved it. I just need to start. Any suggestions or words of encouragement?

Hey, welcome! Lately I've been lagging on going to the gym also. I used to go 4 times a week or more, but now I've been going twice. I've also been cheating with meals.. which I resisted for a while.

I just need to kick my own ass and get there! VISUALIZE WHAT YOU WANT and just GET IT DONE! Good luck! Keep us updated.

Thanks.
My first goal is three times a week to the gym and keep a simple food journal.
I'll try for new goals once I lose 10 pounds.
I like your visualize idea. I'll add that to my plan.

Welcome! Food journals are a good start, I found it helped me a lot to actually see everything I was eating each day. Without it written down I would tend to "forget" the little snacks and such, then wonder why I wasn't losing weight. When you know everything is going on paper, it makes you think twice. Its very helpful! Keeping a journal in the Journal's section of this forum is fun too, so you have people to cheer you on and let you know how your plan looks :) Good luck, you can do it!

dudes you can all achieve what you want...its all about visualization as im sure someone said previously, losing weight is easy and training is easy its just you need to adjust your mind set...

your mind will screw you over in the end if you keep thinking negative! THINK POSSITIVE!! I CAN DO THIS!!! when you think you feel tired on that bike think about how your body is feeling...you will realize you aint tired and your mind is tricking you!!

i love this forum :p GO TEAM!

This is a really good thing to do; I've got my girlfriend doing this and she's now down 5lbs in about 10 days.
Make sure you mix in a little cardio and weight training too. And keep your protein and fat intake at a decent level so you can maintain as much muscle as possible while you lose the weight

The food journal/log is an awesome idea.. I've found myself cheating once in a while lately. No accountability. I'm going to pick up a little pocket notebook today..

I read a statistic today that said that people who keep a food journal lose twice as much as those who don't.

That means you can double your effort by writing down what you eat. Cool!!!

That's cause it keeps you accountable, especially when you post it online for a forum community to see. we all judge you based on your ability to stick to your lifestyle change. ;):action12:

Welcome to the forum Kate.

The economy is BAD and everyone is hurting. Use excercise as a tool to escape your reality. Put aside that hour or 2 or whatever you want and that workout time is your meditation time. Just focus on breathing and lifting or running. After your warmups just pound out the workout intensity until all you can think about is breathing. The first few weeks is PAINFUL but if you can last, you will noticed how much more at ease your mind and body is.

Remember, it's MIND, BODY, AND SOUL that you are trying to recover. Those 3 are all inter-linked so when your body is out of shape, what do you think your mental function is like. The mind and body is destructive, how do you think your soul is doing? Start with what you can change easily, the BODY and be patience. Forgive yourself if you slip up once in awhile. Use your mind to educate yourself so that the body is recovering more effeiciently. While training the body, learn to think about nothing but breathing (that is mediating) and that will help your soul.

Good luck. Hey, you took the first step, now just keep the momentum going!!!

Best Wishes,
--Tic

Thanks tic.

I remember how I would crave those endorphins when I was working out regularly.

I appreciate the reminder.

Anytime and I hope you re-gain those endorphins and then some. Hopefully, you will get that "runner's high" from excercising again. It's a GREAT feeling; that rush -- no pain, no worries, juse FREE like an eagle soaring through the sky. Hey, that should be your mini-goal to achieve within the first month.

Just hit me up if you need anymore encouragement OR a tongue lashing.

I'm new here as well and have lost roughly 120lbs over the past 18 months and am determined to get to my goal by summer. My biggest motivation is to keep a picture on my desk and as the back ground of my computer at home of what I used to look like and what I've accomplished. Maybe an idea for you as well? You have accomplished a lot, don't fall off track lady! :hug2:

Think I may need to do this. This also makes you realise of your eating way to much or to little. You can also look back and see what you can improve for the next week.

Very good idea :)

Thanks Beaver. I have tried it two different ways. One time I wrote down everything I intended to eat and tried to stick to it. (Very good if you can stick to it.) Right now I am writing down things as I eat them. It really makes me stop and think before I munch on things without a thought.
