Who is doing a spring show?

Anyone? I am doing one in March or April ( haven't decided which to do yet) but am gearing up and starting my contest diet.

Those of you who plan to compete, how early do you start your diet? What changes about your training?

This time I plan on winning or placing very high! I want this BAD. I will also be going it alone without a trainer since funds are limited.

My diet will be much the same as last time but earlier and more strict adherence. Towards the last 4 weeks I will do a lot of carb cycling. I eliminate dairy and fruit pretty much from the get go since both have not so great effects on my body and seem to create cravings for me. Salt intake will be greatly reduced 4 weeks out and I will probably get rid of the egg whites 1week out because of the sodium content.

I plan on breaking up the cardio to 2x day on the days I don't have my kids and doing interval training 2x time a week but not before or after the day I train legs. This could be tricky to schedule. :) I did myself some harm last time by overtraining- this time I would like to be injury free. Also last time I did high reps and low weight but I think I will do that closer to the end and stick to heavy until 6 weeks out.

I am OK with my upper body development. Definitely will do more chest training this time and bring out my lats more but my main focus will be on legs! This is the hardest part for females to develop and get that fluff off.

I will post pics soon for my before and do progression shots too.

Any tips on leg training would be greatly appreciated!

The bodyfat truck is coming to the gym next weekend and I will be getting measured and figuring out where I want to be for my show. It's exciting! I love getting ready for a competition. :luxlove:

I saw some of your pictures girl. You are amazing; keep on rocking it.

About the weight training part, low weight and high rep is not effective for definition or toness. Like somone said, "if you want to get big, go heavy and if you want to get cut, go on the threadmill." Seems like you have a solid program concept already and the experience will definitely help you out.

As for the diet, I am not a professional but I liked to eat water retaining food like broccilli during my diet and I guess you outta phase it out toward the last 2-3 weeks before the competition? The water retention is to help out on the craving though.

Here is a website link to a bodybuilding.com forum for competition preparation:

Don't leave us though and tell us how everything is progression and the pictures before, during, and after competition. I am definitely interested in the body transformation that you did prior to (today's pic) and pre-contest and contest pictures.[/

No pic today. I am still recovering from my Christmas throwdown. Let me get the bloat off and then I shall shoot a some befores. I might hurl myself off a cliff if I saw myself on film today. :) Thanks for the info!

I will get my 7 year old to snap some pics of me so I can keep honest!

Tell me when you start this cut / diet routine and I might join in on you mid-january. I am not competing but might compete with you in term of cardio / conditioning / diet. Would be fun to have a partner to cut with.

I am not entering a professional spring contest (LOL), but I do have a personal contest with myself that I have entered. The end goal (about July) is to be ripped 48 year old middle aged man, at 172-173 pounds (coming from a base weight of 161/162, and 7.8% BF). Currently, I am sitting at about 171/172 pounds (substantial water, and up about 2% BF, or just over 10% BF). Next few months I expect to slowly gain additional weight, and be in the mid-180's (5' 7"). When I hit 180, I will post a pic in the COL, with my fat ass (LOL), and one in my Avatar.

Gonna ROCK this year out, baby. It is planned. It is organized. It is going to be done.

Bulking isn't the hard part though (with me), its getting that last bit off (again) that is the bast@rd, knowing what I have to go through having experienced it before. There is room for one b-turd, though, and its me. My body tries to impose its will, and I try to impose mine, and when it clears, I stand on the podium with my "personal contest" trophy the winner. This is the only way, baby.

Best wishes to all.

Chillen

Seems we are on very similar goals there Chillster. So far, that is 3... Lets see who else is going to do this bulking, then cutting "funness." I guess Mel Def will be ahead of us as she is preparing for Spring's contest whereas we are just gonna look sexy for summer. I am mid-30's, Chillster is a young 40, any 20's / 50's wants in? Calling you out ILM, I know you want a piece of this action!!!

Me<------------------ Jumping up and down and clapping! How exciting! This will definitely keep me working hard! Today I am fasting to get myself reset so to speak. This isn't anything other then my own idea but I find with the constant obsession I have with eating and not eating, my body and food, it helps to get my focus where it needs to be- which is why am I doing this? Answer: Because my life is worth living when I acheive something that takes effort, disipline and drive.

I like how Chillen has outlined a definitive goal. That is a good idea. Since I am still so new at competing I don't have all the answers yet as to what and how to get where I need to be. I read a crazy transformation diet on Bodybuilding.com that seemed much skimpier then my menu last time precontest but I might see how it works for a week or so and let you all know. I will post that in another reply so you can see.

I am going to see how I look as I drop the weight but I am thinking at 5'8 I would like to come in at 125-127 and around 8-9% bodyfat. I don't want to look too lean or that will be judged negatively. Figure girls have to look athletic but not overly hard and muscular ( bodybuilderesque). So I got 10 pounds to drop. I lost weight fast last time but I also got weak and wasn't able to put energy into workouts at times. I need the balance. Thanks again for joining in the fun.

Why don't you guys compete? It really is a great expierience. Keeps you working like a dog too. That last 3 weeks you wonder how you'll make it, all the tanning, the working out, the hunger, pushing past the point of exhaustion. It was a spiritual journey.

Weeks 1 and 2 from the Bodybuilding.com site. I don't eat bread or pasta or white potatoes so that's out and obviously they are trying to plug Detour bars. I eat real food so I will skip the bars. They just make me want to head out and buy a 6 pack of Snickers anyway.

Option 1 - ½ Cup of oatmeal cooked in water, mixed with 35gm of protein powder
Option 2 - ½ Cup of Grits mixed with 35gm of protein powder
Option 3 - 6-10 Egg whites on two slices of whole meal bread
5gm of Glutamine
1 multivitamin
Hydroxycut
2 glasses of water

Meal 2

Option 1 - A fist sized portion of fish mixed with ½ cup of brown rice and vegetables
Option 2 - A palm sized portion of steak with a fist sized portion of pasta
Option 3 - A fist sized portion of chicken with a palm sized baked potato
2 glasses of water

Meal 3

Option 1 - Meal replacement shake. The CNP products are a great choice and tastes great when mixed in a blender with ice cubes
Option 2 - Two turkey sandwiches on whole meal bread.
Option 3 - A fist sized portion of lean ground beef and a palm sized sweet potato

Meal 4 (pre workout)

Option 1 - A palm sized portion of steak with one palm sized baked potato and salad

1. What do you think, the Hydroxycut, is doing for you?

2. And, what do you think the L-Glutamine is doing for you? (besides maybe a little water retention)?

;)

I am not the greatest fan of supplements. Especially so-called over-the-counter fat burner/thermogenics. And, the abundant Amino Acid, L-glutamine.

BOTH (as supplements) simply do not live up their hype.

Best regards,

Chillen

I just cut and pasted that verbatim from the Bodybuilding.com site. There is some other stuff on there I haven't heard of and don't take BUT ...

I do take L-Glutamine and did take Hydroxycut my last show but it is probably more a talisman then really any good. I don't know and YIKES! Scared to go without.

I am a bit of a supplement junkie. OK. Not a bit, a lot. What is it that you don't like about L Glutamine? I have seen another post that you said it was not worth it. Curious.

I guess I'm still so new to having any muscle that all the stuff my trainer put me on has me convinced that I would lose all my muscle and blob up if I didn't take it. I have fat girl mentality that is taking time to overcome.

The reason why I dont' compete is simply, I've seen those guys on the magazines at my weight class... Wow, I don't think that I really want to put that much effort into cosmetic muscle. When one diet for a competition, it's actually taking a step backward and one is really weak during competition phase (or so I've read).

I've tried hydroxycut, Horrible horrible product. Nothing personal but I used to take Xenadrine with ephedra and it left a really sour taste in my mouth. Tried the new H-cut hardcore recently because brother bought it and took it for 1 week and wanted to junk it so I gave it a shot for 1-2 pills.... Not worth it but that is just my opinion; I like elbow grease and to keep the supplement light. But then I am not competing professionally like Mel. Don't get me wrong, I think it's AWESOME that you are. Would be fun to read and keep track of your diet / excercise / mentality from day to day. Hey start a journal. :)

Tic,

I only compete at the ameteur level. :) I would like to earn my pro card too but I have a long way to go! It is for fun and definitely not a way to earn a living unless you get some sort of sponsorship from a supplement company which I don't aspire to do. I'm keeping my day job in other words.

Those magazines are full of people who are on Steroids and usually gentically gifted. I compete in Natural Shows and while I am sure that there are competitors in them that juice up, we all take lie detector tests and the winners have to be drug tested prior to receiving their award prizes ( AKA the money). Natural bodybuilders are not as massive as Jay Cutler and those sorts.

I will start a journal! Thanks for being supportive.
