I am so glad I made it hear. Been trolling the forums and their is so much good information! Previously I was getting very frustrated with conflicting advice from people regarding nutrition. But the information here is set out clearly and I am already making changes to my diet which is great!
About seven months ago I got my hands on some free weights and a bench.
I knew that if I got into the "science" I would get bored and stop, as I had lifted for a couple of years in my late teens (I am 28 now).
I kept at it and got some small gains, just working by arms, building a bit of a foundation but really just trying to integrate working out into my life. I am not a big guy (I weigh 84kg @ 183cm) but I did pack on a few pounds around waist in the last couple of years.
Just to be funny, I thought I would try put on some muscle (this whole time I was "tricking" my mind into working out) to increase my metabolism and lose some weight.
Not surprisingly it did not work very well, I lost a little around my waist but not enough.
A guy at my work is a student personal trainer, and got my on a lifting program based around my equipment. I have just finished my second week (program includes Cardio) and I feel great and I am making gains.
I realised I was eating a lot of crap (I thought that because I was not afraid and enjoyed eating vegetables and salad for many years that I ate healthy. I did not realise all the sugar and fat in craps like chips and fast foods was maintain my weight)
Now I am watching my weight more carefully, really enjoy working out (can’t wait for it in fact), and my life is improving.
That's my story anyway. I will try and read as much as I can here before I ask any questions.
