Training after injury...

Hi folks, Recently as a few people have seen on here i've been doing a weight routine and I got to level 4 on this routine this week, So monday I went to the gym and decided rather than doing the weights at home as I usually do i'd do them at the gym on the machine's. Anyway I was going through my routine when I got to the stiff legged deadlifts and as I was doing my 2nd set I felt my back just pop and an intense pain in my lower back, anyway a trip to the doctors ensued and apparently i've strained the muscles in the left side of my lower back and it was probably because I was using the machine and the weights am on pulley's which are different to free weights as i've learn't now.. Anyway i'm just starting to get back on my feet today and was hoping people could tell me how long I should leave the weight routine alone for and when I do start again what about any lower back sets should I leave them be for a bit or start light and build my way up again or should I start where I left off (unlikely I know) and wear a weight training belt??? I am asking this because once I can get about and the pain is a bit better I wanna get right back into my keep fit routine as i'm already bored to death as i've become used to being active...
Any advice would be greatly appreciated
Kind regards,
Lee

Thanks for the advice guys/girls..... Guess i'll just make it up as i go

I think the reason people haven't commented is because if you are injured, usually your physiotherapist will tell you what exercises you should/shouldn't be doing.

Back injuries are dicey ... are you 100% positive it's a muscle pull? Because that could take a year to heal completely. If you heard a "pop", I think that's more than a muscle pull.

You have to make sure you tailor your exercise around this. If it hurts the injury site. Dont do it. Its pretty simple but effective. An injury doesnt have to stop you from exercising.

Thanks for the replies folks as I said I went to the doctors within a few hours of this happening and she took a look and prodded about a bit then said it was a muscle pull but never mentioned Physio at all and to be honest it was very painful for the 1st 48hours but the quickness in which its healed as been good.. I am still getting the odd twinge in my back but its nothing like it was but i'm a bit weary on going straight back into my weight routine as I go away to Spain next week and don't want to bugger up my holiday and injure myself again but on the other hand over the last 7/8 weeks i've gotten used to working out and enjoy it so am keen to get back to it as quickly but safely as possible.. So what do you reckon????

Thanks folks.. I'm gonna pop down the gym tomorrow evening after work and have an hour doing some light excersice and see how the back holds up... Thanks again
