My name is Daniel, i'm new, i have 1 ?

I will have many more questions in the future, but i just want to introduce myself. i'm Daniel. i'm 20 years old. i am mostly athletic, except my abs, weigh 180 lbs, can bench 160, jog 4 miles non stop at 6.5 mph. would my body, or the same upper body muscles, have the ability to workout every day and still gain muscle. (since i'm young and probably have a great repair rate) i'm on a great diet, chili, p.b. and j, tuna, top romen and chicken/vegtables, and milk. <<<<dinners

daily lunch/sandwich of bread with the works of vegetables and beef, salt and vinegar potato chips, gatorade. <<<<<Lunch (exactly the same each day)

(breakfast is usually a bowl of cereal, with 4 eggs, and juice and then green tea.)

i also take ALIVE multivitamin daily, co-enzyme q-10, and calcium supplements daily.

i just have little energy at the end of the day, especially after working each day in 95-105 degree temperature, outside, on black tarp. sometimes it feels like i'm doing some damage to my body after i workout (1-2 times a week), or it might just be stress. i usually pass out at the end of the day, and the next day i'm exhausted. (and on weekends i cannot wake up worth crap, usually sleep in until 12-1pm, when i even go to sleep at about 11pm-12pm. any ideas would be great! thanks,

Dan

welcome, form a fellow newbie.

the 2 things that come to my mind is you could possible be dehydrated especially with working all day in the heat, and you work outs just take the last of it out of you.

and the other thing is how much are you sleeping on a daily bases. because you may just be physically exhausted due to lack of sleep during the week.

hi

A few things here caught my eye...

First, your diet is not great, in fact, there are parts of it that flat out stink, i.e, chips, Gatorade, chili.

Second, you are young and can certainly work out every day, but not every body part every day. The body generally needs 24 - 72 hours rest between workouts.

You didn't say what you do, but since you're 20, I'm guessing it is labor. Roofing? That is very hard work and you may not have enough energy to work out afterwards. That's just the way it is.

Hi Daniel,
I agree with g8r80 in one thing "your diet is not great". Do you have any pre-workout or post-workout meal?
If you don't, your recovery is affected significantly.

A couple of points for your diet.

  • Drink more water during your work and specially at lunch. Also 1hour before going to bed helps your body to wake up less dehydrated.
  • Before your workout eat something with 20+ grams of carbs and some protein but not a lot, 7 to 10 grams would be fine.
  • After workout have a very good meal 14+ grams of carbs 18+ grams of protein and 9 grams of some healthy fats (olive oil, fish oil, avocato, or nuts).
  • Add fish oil to your diet and change the chips for green vegies if you want to see your abs.

Post one of your workouts to see what can be modified. Also post how tall are you, this might help me know if you need to eat more calories.

Good Luck

extra info, from poster.

Well, it might sound sad, but i work at a plant nursery. it really is hard work also. i'm the guy who works his ass off in the sun all day, and gets paid minimum wage. It's damn hard work though. 200 lb trees, hauling hoses, repetativley lifting heavy baskets, soil bags, etc. As for the chili and chips, i sort of knew the chips were somewhat bad. is it because of the starch which quickly turns into fat-after slowing down metabolism? and chili is bad how come? i try to get low fat. but it does have 40 grams of protein per can. what did surprise me was when you said that gatorade is bad. i thought it's one of the best drinks out there for rehydration because of the electrolytes and some carbs? during the week though i also ride my bike to and from work, an average of 5 miles there and 5 miles back. and by the way my height is 5' 10". today i felt much better than the days before/ i excluded the chips at lunch. i think it just slows down the metabolism, and takes more energy from ya to digest it? i also drank alot more water and feel better than usual, but today wasn't too hot. i think that was a very big factor, previously; when it was in the 100 degree range. more feedback would be great.
