legs and piriformus syndrome

I'm in need of a good leg workout! I already do squats, lunges, hamstring curls, and other basics. I also run about 4 times per week. How often should I weight train legs? Two times a week or three? Would like some unique and challenging ideas for different leg workout. Oh, and has anybody heard of piriformus syndrome? I've had pain for 2 years running down my left leg. Finally saw my ortho dr. and he diagnosed me with this. He ordered physical therapy (I haven't gone) and made me schedule a follow up. Online research mentioned several stretches to help which I have been doing and it does seem to be helping. Anyway, interested to hear from anyone else who is experiencing this too. Thanks!

If I were you, I would get checked out by a chiropractor and find out more about those PT sessions and stretches. Piriformis syndrome can be a b!tch--be careful to follow a good osteopath's advice about frequency and intensity of workouts in order to avoid further pain. Chiropractic treatment can be an effective way to restore mobility to the sacro0iliac joint, which is often implicated in piriformis syndrome.

If I were you, I wouldn't go to a chiropractor. I'd get an MRI first. Your sciatic nerve may run through your piriformis instead of being underneath it (like mine).

Then I'd take the MRI results and go to a physiotherapist and explain to them what's happening.

That's exactly what I did, and I have zero pain stemming from my piriformis issues now.

I did have an MRI and that is what it showed. The sciatic nerve does run through the piriformus. I have been doing a series of stretches and it does seem to be getting better. A chiropractor might not be a bad idea. Thanks for all the input.
Still open to any advice on a good leg workout...something challenging and different. Thanks!!
