Good or bad idea?

Get up every morning and hold a 25-45lb plate and do stiff leg deadlifts to get my lower back going....

i have a very weak lower back/core and i really gotta work on it... i relyed on a belt to get a big squat/deadlift til now!

my weight routine:

Monday:
-Bench press
-wide weighted pullups
-military press
-Dips weighted
-Core (abs/obliques)

Tuesday:
-Conventional Deadlifts
-Good Mornings
-Glute Ham Raises
-BB Lunges

Thursday:
-CG Bench Press
-Bent-over Rows
-DB Front/Rear Lateral Raise Superset
-Some curl variation
-core (abs/obliques)

Friday:
-Full Squats
-Stiff Leg Deadlifts
-Glute Ham Raises
-Calf Raises

Its not an explicitly bad idea but its not an explicitly great idea either. Try it, of course, see how it goes.

Stop using the belt and lower the weight until your lower back comes up to par. Some research suggests that using your back that early after waking up is where most injury occurs. Something to do with fluid.

i believe the research you're talking about says that your discs fill with fluid when you sleep, which magnifies pressure on them. If you wait 1 hour after you wake up, 90% of the fluid will have left, and u should be good to lift.

I can't cite that or prove that. But i distinctly remember having read that.

I remember that also. And if there's one place you don't want an injury, it's your back. Back injuries suck! I strained my back once and could barely move for 2 days.

Everyone should do many warm-ups and stretches to their back regularly. This decreases likelihood of injury and keeps your back in shape. I don't know about this fluid thing, I might take a look into that tonight as I study in Fitness and this seems like a very important thing to look into.

The back is the most neglected part of the body yet it is the most important - remember this, don't screw around with back problems take the time and look into it carefully. A lot of great athletes got hindered in their careers because of back injuries due to improper preparation and exercise executions, like Bruce Lee - skipped his warm-ups once and injured his back and it always was a problem for him after in his life.

Yoga and Martial Arts have many MANY back warm-ups, stretches and exercises.

To name a few:
Knee Presses.
Cat Stretches.
Super mans.
Torso twists.
Etc...

If I we're you I would concentrate on your core for a while before getting into heavy lifting - your core helps you in ALL your lifts. If you core lacks, so will the rest of your body.

Hope I helped. :)

Good luck!

Eric

I actually read an article on T-Nation that named a number of stretches that where actually bad for you b/c it tewaked the spine in weird directions. On that list where stuff like Iron Cross', Scorpions, and others
