Sport Butter or Margarine

Sport Fitness
I was watching a show not long ago probably the 700 club and they had a Doc saying butter is "better" than margarine (though he pointed out not all margarine is the same). I would like to hear your take on butter vs margarine.

I personally use Olive oil spread instead of margarine/butter and Omega-3 rich Mayonnaise so I don't use either margarine or butter.

If those are my only options...butter. Conventional margarine is hydrogenated oil=trans fat

Your right. Hydrogenated Oil/Trans fat are "pure evil" and must be labelled on the package. It is funny how margarine was a cheap alternative to butter but sometimes taking a "shortcut" can open a can of worms.

First of all what are you doing watching the 700 club?? Anyway, our ancestors ate butter. Our bodies dont know what to do with margerine. You always want to go for the most natural least processed food.

always use butter in moderation, there's so much crap in anything else. ........

How is margarine made: Step 5

What comes out of the partial hydrogenation process is a smelly, lumpy, grey grease.

To remove the lumps, emulsifiers – which are like soaps – are mixed in.

How is margarine made: Step 6

The oil is steam cleaned (again!) to remove the odor of chemicals. This step is called deodorization and it again involves high temperature and high pressure.

How is margarine made: Step 7

The oil is then bleached to get rid of the grey color.

How is margarine made: Step 8

Synthetic vitamins and artificial flavors are mixed in.

A natural yellow color is added to margarine, as synthetic coloring is not allowed!

In fact, early last century, all coloring was not allowed and margarine was white. This was to protect consumers so that they do not get butter and margarine mixed up

I think margarine first gained it's popularity because, unlike butter, it has zero cholesterol.

Neither is good for you and both should be minimized.
