Hip Flexor and Knee Pain - No Leg Work for me!

I'm new to this forum, and I'm looking for some help from some knowledgeable people out there. I've been having a ton of groin pain (trainer says it's the hip flexor), and knee pain (just had an MRI - waiting for the results). Because of these issues, I'm basically crippled when it comes to leg workouts these days. Does anybody have any suggestions what I can do to keep my legs in shape while not further injuring the hip flexor or knee. Squats are out because of the knee, ouch! I'm desperate to keep working the legs, but my trainer keeps telling me he wants me to avoid the legs altogether for now. It's been a couple weeks and I don't know what to do. Any help (suggestions) would be appreciated. I'm dying here!!:drooling1: Thanks

tight IT band

stretching and foam roller

sounds simple, because it is.

p.s. even if I am wrong, it will improve your condition an performance in all areas.

Thanks

I have been doing that for months. It has helped tremendously. I was able to do lunges for a while, but the knee pain came back. The orthopedist I saw thinks it's a kneecap problem (like I said, still waiting on MRI results). So the foam roller really isn't going to help that). It does help though with the day-to-day IT problems, helps me get through. I am stretching and icing the hip flexor daily hoping to get it back into shape since I'm not putting any stress on it by exercising it. However, doing ab crunches today, it gave me a little jab just when I wanted to lift my leg up in a certain way. So, still giving me trouble even though it's been inactive for a couple weeks. Any other suggestions?

sleep- with something between your knees. either your mates leg, or a pillow. Never sleep on you tummy.

hmmm, with the knee cap in mind, keep it safe, and lets work on the flexor. this does not replace stretching that IT band. that thing can make your entire lower body feel "impacted"

I would go with a pigeon pose, the half pigeon is best to start, and bending your back leg will change the angle of stretc. i find this best when coming into it from a downward facing dog pose.

remember to keep your back nice and straight, otherwise the lower back can spasm a bit :p

this bad boy is gunna hurt punkin,, breath into it

Thanks again

Wow, does that look like an amazing stretch. And I'm sure some pain involved. It may take me a while to work up to that one. Thanks so much for your answers. I will be working on fixing my leg, as soon as I get together with my doc and we review the MRI. Again, thanks for your responses! Very helpful!

I wouldn't do anything before i checked the results first; there is a chance that part of your miniscus is damaged and you might need arthroscopic surgery, don't get stressed, it's a very simple procedure. I don't understand what does your hip flexor have to do with your groin problem though.
