When is it too late to eat meat?

Sometimes I find myself eating dinner as late as 9pm and I was just wondering if it's bad to eat chicken that late.

thanks

It's never too late to eat meat. It's a good idea to eat protein at night, since your going to go without protein for so many hours while you are sleeping, it can help avoid catabalism.

Awesome, it's hard to believe that eating chicken that late isn't bad for you!

thanks

Because most people think that eating late is bad no matter what it is.

Actually....most of us have a resting metabolic rate (RMR) of about 2,100 calories per day. That means that if we just sit in bed all day and just watch tv, we require about 2,100 calories just for bodily functions, etc. That's 87 calories per hour, or if you go to sleep at 11pm and wake-up at 7am, a bit more then 600 calories! Hello; you're burning calories 24/7!!!

I'm told is that it's not so much an hour-per-hour thing or even day-by-day....it's how many calories did you take in during the week, and how much did you exercise during that same week. Nutrient timing can help optimize things, but outside of exercise, it's not as dramatically important as we're led to believe. If you are truly hungry, then you should eat. just don't let it become recreational.

You may be suffering from the same sydrome I do.....

During the day you're active, moving around, busy and doing stuff. Like me, you may find it relatively easy to eat light, pass on heavy meals and (as I like to say)..."run lean". I don't get really hungry during the day.....but when the sun goes down I develop a hunger that can wipe-out a buffet bar! I've tried (by suggestion) eating more during the day...but that doesn't help; when the sun sets, my hunger flares...and since I stay up late, I'm pretty much ready for another meal come midnight! Yeah, bad...very bad!

Here's my theory: the body isn't stupid. We have an equilibrium and our bodies know when we've burned more calories then we've taken in: it chemically tells us to eat...all in an effort to simply replenish and catch-up on lost caloric ground. It doesn't know we're dieting, it just knows you're on the low and starvation is just around the corner; EAT EAT EAT!!!!!

It's been explained that stimulants reduce appetite...so it only makes sense that during our active day we're up & running and can deal with hunger....but come night-time I generally find time to read to my kids, watch some tv, and goof-off on the computer....the perfect time for my body to relax, wind-down.....and hear that inner-voice screaming to be fed. Can I get an Amen?? :D

That brings us to the next question: if we give our bodies what they want, will we lose weight? Aren't our bodies trying to re-fill & replenish? YES, THEY ARE! So eat...but try drinking lots of water and give your body low-caloric choices. I like to snack on a few dried plums & almonds. The healthy fats in the nuts are heart-healthy, there's fiber, protein and tendency to initiate a signal to your brain (CCK) that you're full. The dried plums (aka prunes) have lots of fiber, lots of antioxidants and will give your blood-sugar a healthy boost which will also help send a satisfied feeling to your brain. Beyond that, I'll sometimes grab some chicken, turkey or smoked salmon just because protein takes time to digest and helps keep you full...plus I make a wicked smoked salmon!

Dude....food isn't the problem, TOO MUCH of the WRONG food IS the problem!

Keep asking questions Gustavo...it just means your dedicated, fascinated and trying to make the most of your effort!!!!!:beerchug:

...but don't feed Gizmo after midnight
