Do we need a posture sticky? Just a post where we describe the basic posture flaws, some tips as how to correct them, link some articles, have some pics that illustrate the different posture problems, etc.
I think it would be a good idea, since a lot of people have bad posture, but doesn't even realize it themselves. I was thinking just describing APT, PPT, slouching, internally rotated shoulders, forward head posture, etc, etc and attaching pics so people can see what it actually looks like.

If we do make one, we need someone to write it, prefferably someone educated, with real knowledge about it. Any takers? If the mods sees it as necessary, that is.

I voted no because although I think posture is important I think it's probably too specific to have it's own sticky. If you have one for posture then you should also have one for other things i.e. Do you have suprinated or pronated feet when running?
I think the number of stickies should be kept under control so the important stuff doesn't get overlooked

yeah, but we don't have that many stickies, and I'd dare say 90% of the world population have significant posture flaws (atleast in the western world)

I think if anyone has trouble with their posture, they can make their own thread (with pictures is the best way to know what you have for sure because you may not just have a pelvic tilt, you may have something else too that you do not know you have). It's best to get evaluated by a professional though. I am not sure if this board has professionals (experts like therapists, personal trainers, etc.), but I do know jpfitness.com has some.

I'm not saying it would be something you would consult instead of a doctor or whatnot, but just a tool in helping to determine whether or not you have posture issues.
The plan with this thread was just testing the waters to see if there was any intrest.

We have several pretty good personal trainers on the site, at least one who is very good with posture correction.

Who? I don't know of any on here. I need to talk to one that is very good with posture correction to see if I have the right weightraining movement program with the right sets/reps so I can get better and reach my goal. I want to make sure I am on the right track.

Bip knows a lot about posture, but he doesn't post here all that often.
A lot of people here could probably tell you the basics, if you're focusing on the right movements, doing more rows than benching, etc. If you want some "special" corrective exercises and a real diagnose of the problem though, you'll need someone who can give you some tests to do to determine your flaws.

TESTOSTERONE NATION
there are a bunch of tests there, it will give you an idea of some mobility issues you might and probably have. Now here's a disclaimer from the article so you don't think those tests are all and all:
Tests for Shoulder Girdle Health

Although research shows there's little to no correlation between postural alignment and muscle strength, it's helpful to know which of your muscles might be limited in terms of mobility. Shortened muscles in one region can cause unsafe compensatory motion in other regions. Certain structures may need to be mobilized through specific massage techniques (e.g. NMT, ART, MFR) to allow adequate length for the overhead pressing motion to be performed correctly (correct motor pattern).

These tests aren't meant to be diagnostic in any way, just indicative of potential areas that may be causing problems with your shoulder mechanics. If you have a positive test (positive for tightness or shortness), mark down in the column a plus sign (+) and then make any remarks about individual differences between left and right sides in the comments section. Some of these tests are best done with a partner.

Yeah I rather see someone in person because it is hard to get ahold of people online because they are not on much and even though you have pictures, its still hard to diagnose some areas, but my parents don't want to pay money. They think money is more important and think I'm fine. I have to get a job first in order to do anything. What would be the best person to see and what would prices usually range from?

http://www.t-nation.com/readTopic.do?id=1238411 that article there, my right arm has problems during the tricep stretching to the opposite side and right arm reaching up to opposite side. My left side is fine. What should I do about this? Also when I try to reach my right arm to my left hand, I could not get close and some tightness/tension/achyness I feel, which makes me stop trying to go any further. It's hard to explain what I feel, but its not pain.

On the L and upside L test...

I could do...
(laying vertical on back example and also laying on my side I could do it too. I also sleep this way on my right side)
|____|____| (easily)

However, I cannot do it the opposite... (upside down L) touching the floor and my left arm is more flexible than my right in this one when I test the single arm laying on my side

What could be the problem? I also sleep on my right side with no where to put my right arm (I wish I can take it off before bed and put it back on in the morning). I sleep on my side with my right arm in an L position. I also throw right handed.

It's a good idea but quite honestly, for the small amount of people that will actually bother reading it...It's not worth anyone's time.

I agree with those who think that we don't need a posture sticky...

There is quite an array of postural problems out there, and each can have several distinct causes... it would probably be best to approach each case individually as it comes to the forums, unless you try to cover the entire gambit in the sticky.

Package it the right way and people care about posture, especially women. You can be as lean as you want but if you hunch that just isn't sexy.

And for men, you can really gain some power and control in your lifts and movements when your postural chain is working right. Injury decrease, recovery time increases. Plenty of benefits and I think it would make a good sticky to have.

If looking to drag the women in you can point here in a sticky...

Nice article, Leigh, but I'm a little confused. I mean, I feel like I've got some turtle head going on even though your diagnostic would indicate no. In the , does the woman on the left have the correct alignment? Or rather, is the center of your body represented by the white line?

If there does end up being a sticky on posture, it'd probably be better served under the Injury/Medical or Wellness thread groups as postural problems is seldom limited to resistance training for cause/correction.

I got two questions about that already. The line is the "golden" spot if you will, the pictures are to show a negative progression.

Ideally you want your ear, shoulder, hip, knee and ankle to sit in vertical alignment.

Ah, alright. That's what I suspected. For someone with my lifestyle *not* to have the turtle head would have struck me as odd.

Thank you. :)

I think it's a great idea.

Even if it isn't a sticky, I think it'd be great if we had a thread with just the most common posture problems and most important areas to have good posture, etc.
