Fat-Continuum Theory

THE FAT CONTINUUM THEORY

Okay....let me start by covering 2 points:

1) I know I do a lot of joking around here so it's hard to discern when to take me seriously....but I'm actually being serious here.

2) I know what I'm about to present does NOT hold any factual basis for substantiating. There is no clinical research, there have been no trials or testing....and I sure as heck can not establish any real evidence to support it. At the same time, we're all familar with Murphy's Law and there's equally no way to substantiate that either....so without further ado, my Fat Continuum Theory (and yes, I spell-checked continuum....2 u's!)

The Fat Continuum Theory: fat can neither be created nor destroyed, it exist as a collective energy-mass that must be stored on people's body. In order for YOU to lose weight, someone else must gain that weight....and it will generally go to someone who is closer to you. In the end, it's a matter of who is willing to work-out hard and/or eat less.

Before starting my program I warned my wife that I'd be dieting & cutting-back and that, by consequence, it would be much easier and more likely that she'd gain weight....and despite her joining me in exercise to some degree...she's gained weight. Fortunately, most of my lost weight has reappeared on my sister-inlaw...and I'm cool with that.

So, much like the unexplainable Murphy's Law...and granted I can't substantiate this theory in the least....does it still not inexplicably stand that to some degree this absurd thoery holds some element of truth????

And I don't think the weight/fat has to go to someone immediately around you...you have to expand your mind beyond the physical world around us...it's more of a mental thing where the energy flows on a more existential plane.

NO, I'm not saying I believe in this theory...I know how the body works and how fat is created & lost....but in some manner, much like Murhpy's Law....isn't it odd how this theory somehow seems to sorta exist?

I do not own a crack-pipe and I'm not (currently) on drugs. That said....discuss

I always wondered why my wife bitched about getting bigger when I lost the 35 pounds.....:yelrotflmao:

As sententious as that is, it is horribly false ;)

- If fat cannot be "destroyed" then how do we lose weight?
- It doesnt need to be stored on people. Theres more to fat then just lipid. Theres cholesterol, esters etc. Different structures and functions.

Probably the mosty absurd point raised is that for someone to lose weight someone else must gain weight. You must be assuming that when someone burns off fat, the reverse process initiates so that the fat reforms itself, flys out of the body into the closest person or anyone it prefers.

Good to see your thinking, although its utterly wrong ;)

In my best Indian voice...

Matt....my friend, please to be expanding your mind and be thinking outside the caloric box. For there is far more to the reality that surrounds us then we could ever imagine. PLEASE COME AGAIN!

Fat is converted into energy, and we all know that energy can neither be created nor destoyed (Einstein & Chillen), only transformed in it's form.

Energy = Mass x Calories divided by the total square footage of the Swedish Bikini Teams outfits, squared.

Of course it's an absurd and utterly unsubstantiated theory....but much like Murphy's Law, it seems to hold some semblance of relevance.

I'm just sayin'...that when someone loses weight, it just seems like it goes somewhere and more often then not to someone near or around you. Really fat & obese people are therefore magnets of attraction for fat.....perhaps if we hang-out around them we can lose some weight through an osmotic reaction where they absorb our.....NEVERMIND.

Now I suppose you're gonna question my theory that the green-colored peanut M&M's have no calories while all the other colors do??????

It's true Matt, it's all true....but only if your faith is strong enough! :D :D :D

It does seem like when I cut weight some people around me gain more weight. And vise-versa. I think there is something to this theory. :D:beerchug:

That's what I'm talkin' about.....makes no sense, but darned if it ain't true!!!!!

If we presume to only accept that which we can conceptually understand and conceive today, then we limit ourselves from progressing into the future. - Chillen

FCT may not be science, but I'll take it over Atkins any day! :D

It's dumb :p

You only say that cause it could put you and your kind out of business :p

Expand your mind, but not to the point of being an air-head :D

Back when the telephone was invented, the president of the United States was presented with the technology....to which he responded unenthusiastically "Interesting, but I see no use for it"

FCT ROCKS!!!!!!!!

In my best rational voice...Theres a things where you can be so open minded your brain falls out ;)

Yes energy can not be created no destroyed. Fat can.

Fat isnt really converted into energy, the energy contained in the bonds is released.

I think you just not conceiving the idea of how fat is broken down. It contains carbon, oxygen atoms etc all combined by bonds. The energy is used for work or released as heat (not being destroyed). The oxygen we breathe in combines with the single hydrogen to form water and is released blah blah i dont really have time to explain but hopefully your beginning to see how fallacious your idea is

:)

Wow,

I know it might be hard to comprehend, but maybe the other people who seemed to gain weight while you where burning it off just ate what could be considered an excess of what there maintance sum would be. With western countries well known to consume too much, is my theory possible?

And theres this word called fascile..;)

Wasnt trying to be funny, just make a point.

But bikeman, do you really beleive what you just wrote, do you really think that after all these years, after all these marvelous scientists. You happen to find something so extroadinary, defying all physics. Surely this would be a world changing event - worth a nobel prize at the very least. :) I demand you to submit your theory, it would be a bit selfish to keep your secret from the rest of the world ;)

And theres this word called fascile..;)

Actually, there isn't. But facile isn't the word, either. You sort of missed my meaning entirely, but no worries. :p

Edit: I have no business ruining fun anyway. Just think it's a little excessive, is all. Or, failing that, spread a little too thick. Doesn't quite satisfy my aesthetic. We all have to start somewhere, though.

Matt,

Don't read between the lines.....JUST READ :D

Of course I know the FCT doesn't hold water.....it's just a goofy observation largely intended to break the boredom of a rainy day and have a little fun & discussion. Somewhere out there in our great nation, somebody who read this will be doing cardio, working-out or at a total lack of material to discuss at a party.....and this little tid-bit will make for a laugh.

Okay, you want the truth? Alright....here it is: when we diet we become more consciously aware of our loss and perhaps the fatness (I mean, fitness) level of those around us....so while it may seem that our loss of fat results in it's being transfered to another person....in reality....it's not.

There, I said it...

Chillen....Matt made me face reality and give-up on my dreams and core-belief, GET HIM!:SaiyanSmilie_anim:

Facts, data, scientists...pththththt. On my last cut, my dog gained 7 lbs. The proof is in the pudding, and the pudding was in my dog.

oopsss:D

Why dont you come up with another theory;) maybe one with a tad more truth in it or maybe we dont know about it yet:azzangel:

Like for example, although its not fitness related, what and how does the mind actually work :p

and i know you really did believe in your fat continuum theory ;)

Interesting theory! While my Mum and I have lost weight my brother and sister have gained it and in the past when my sister has lost it I've gained it but I put that down to emotional binges
