Today was a good day, I ate well, exercised and feel good tonight. Did 2 hours and 20 minutes in the gym, but not the PT exercises. However I have incorporated some of the PT things into my gym routine so I think I am ok. Will do PT tomorrow.
Are you all set for Christmas?
No, of course not, but probably in better shape than most years. Still have a few folks to buy for, took the grandkids on a big shopping trip tonight, we get them out and give them budgets to buy for people, it was fun.
Oh, sorry, I am behind on your journal. What surgery did you get and are you mostly healed up now? So nice you can up your calories for the winter!
Can I ask you about living in Louisiana? Are there artsy, safe towns you could recommend as far as retiring there? My husband and I are looking to get out of California in the next few years as house insurance and cost of living are astronomical, and I was mainly looking in North and South Carolina, but I visited New Orleans once and it was wondrous.
Hey Marisa, good to see you here! I had prostate surgery in October, not the worst case by any means, but it did set me back a bit.
Louisiana is like a lot of places, if you get to know it there are nice places to live and safe. New Orleans however can be tough... One place I have always liked that would be a lot safer and slower paced is Natchitoches (
Official Natchitoches Travel Information), my mother's home town. It is actually older than New Orleans and pretty well preserved, with a lively art scene, kind of like a small town New Orleans. It is also much further from the hurricane risks. Don't mean to dissuade you from New Orleans, a lot of people really love it there. I have a cousin in Algiers (
Algiers | New Orleans), the only part of the City of New Orleans on the west bank of the river. If I were moving to NOLA that would be one of the first places I would look, safer and quieter than most of the city, but not far from the happenings, just a short ferry ride away from the French Quarter (
Ferries in New Orleans). Louisiana is much lower cost than California, but be sure you understand the flood risks and flood insurance before you buy.
Having lived in Florida much of my life I am very familiar with people moving in from the north to retire. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't, my advice is to try a place first, rent for 6 months or so and see how you like it.
