Alligatorob's Diary

I love just having one taste of a fattening thing to see what it tastes like now, too. So cool you can do that and stop - I view that as a super power! I adore salmon on salads - that sounds completely delicious.

Well done on the super weight loss Rob. We are dieting for nearly the same time and I have only lost half of what you have lost . That's amazing .

Love the sound of the wild Alaskan salad.

Thanks, and you may have only lost half the pounds that I have, but my guess is if you put it into % of the weight we need to lose to get to goal we would be a lot closer, you might be ahead. But that doesn't matter. What's important is eating right, and you have as much to feel good about as I do on that count.

It was a good day. The first of the peach harvest began today, the farmer just took a few bushels. We have 6 different peach varieties and its just the early ones that are starting to get ripe now. We should have different varieties of ripe peaches for the next month or so. I ate 5 1/2 peaches today, probably can't keep that pace up, but they were good. Most were still a little on the green side, but 2 of them were perfect, not much better than a tree ripened peach eaten right off the tree.

In 1116 the Aztecs left their ancestral home in Aztlān to began their search for what was to become Tenochtitlan or Mexico City. The location of Aztlān is unknown, but believed to be somewhere in what is today northern Mexico, or the southwestern US. I think Mexican history is really interesting, perhaps because I have traveled in Mexico and visited many of the ruins. They are very impressive. When Cortes "conquered" in Tenochtitlan or Mexico City in 1521 it was probably the largest city in the world, much larger than any city in Europe at the time. It is hard to understand how a handful of Spanish Conquistadors could have taken it so easily.

Rob those peaches look divine. The ones we get here ( buy ) are extremely hit and miss . Mainly I don't bother with them now. I'm craving a sun holiday now to go and have lots of fresh seasonal fruits .

Your discipline with food is truly amazing .

Some time around 1204 BC the Olmec culture rose as the dominant civilization in Central America. The Olmecs were the earliest known major civilization in the Americas, centered around the current states of Veracruz and Tabasco, Mexico. The Olmecs probably invented the long count calendar that the Mayans later made famous. The Olmecs also developed the mathematical concept of zero, long before it was adapted in Western Europe. Although the Egyptians and Chinese were also early users of zero.

Missed calories! I had grapes with my morning snack yesterday and left it out. It just came to me. So my total should have been 1,328 calories for the day. It was probably the whisky! Keeping track like this is good for me, I don't forget much, but when I do it almost always comes back.

Lol Rob I'm glad it was grapes and not a big KFC and fries lol .
A podcast I listen too said calories consumed at midnight don't count lol . I like that idea

Yesterday was a good day, ate well and I feel good. Had a bunch of grandkids and friends over last night. Its starting to be a little cool at night so we built a fire. The kids wanted s'amores but the only ingredient we had was the marshmallows. I found some mint oreos and we used them, the kids approved and took to calling them s'moreos. In case they don't have this delicacy in the places where y'all live a s'more is a marshmallow roasted over the fire and then put into a sandwich using graham crackers and chocolate. I helped roast and build the sandwiches, but had none. They weren't too hard to resist.

Yesterday was a yard work day and by the time the s'moreos were done I was too tired to log in, but I did record my food. One of my tasks yesterday was greasing the tractor, one of my least favorite jobs. And tractors have to be greased a lot more often than cars. My tractor has maybe 20 grease zerks.... The reason I am writing about it was that I noticed getting to some of the less accessible zerks was a little easier than it has been, I felt good about that. The diet however has made the job no less dirty.

Robert de Beaumont, 2nd Earl of Leicester died in 1168. The town of Beaumont, Texas is close to the Louisiana border, and where my father's family was; I have relatives in Beaumont. It was an early oil town, the site of the 1901 spindletop blowout that started the Texas oil boom. When I was young the smell of hydrocarbons hung thick in the air anywhere near Beaumont, its a little better today. The only famous person I know from Beaumont was Janice Joplin. I looked it up Beaumont comes from old Norman French, meaning "lovely hill" There are no hills anywhere near Beaumont, Texas, flat as a pancake, and certainly nothing lovely I know of in that town, mostly old rusting oil industry ruins. So who knows how Beaumont, Texas got it's name. Robert on the other probably did not have the name at all, he was more likely known as Robert "Le Bossu" (Robert the Hunchback) in his day, I guess more recent historians thought Beaumont sounded better.

Rob it sounds like you had a awesome time with you rfamily. I am wondering how you could be that close to s'mores and not even eat one? That is a lot of will power.

Shell, no not a lot of will power. I know that if I take just one bite I won't have the will power to stop, so I decide ahead of time to not have one bite and set it in my head before roasting the first marshmallow. So I have found the way to do it that takes the least will power. In the case of a single french fry Cate mentioned, I just decided ahead of time I would taste just one, and then that's what I did.

Lunch today was a bit more of a challenge, I was out running errands and whilst I was away the grandkids fixed a brunch. When they saw me coming they fixed a plate for me and had it ready and waiting when I walked in. I had no time to plan, and its really hard to turn down food prepared by grandkids. If anyone else had fixed it I would probably have just said no. I ate the eggs and a couple of bites of the hash browns, and just one link sausage. I did have to take one bite of the waffle the 12 year old had proudly fixed and topped with a sugary peach topping. I made a big deal of eating that bite, so it kind of went unnoticed that I had only eaten a small part of what was on my plate. I slipped a few bites to the dogs and then discretely discarded the rest. That took more will power than I have had to muster in a while, but I did it. In part helped by thinking about having to log whatever it was I did eat and post it here.

All in all it was a good day, I managed to eat well and I feel good. I had a lot of peaches, it looks to me like over 35% of my calories were in peaches, that can be hard to do, peaches don't have a lot of calories. We opened one of the cantaloupes our farmer gave us, it sure was good, plenty left over for tomorrow.

I looked 1040 up in Wikipedia and noticed something interesting. There are about 30 births and 25 deaths listed, most are European kings, princes, duchesses etc. Only one Europeans clearly not a par of the ruling elite, Rashi a French rabbi and writer was the only one I could find without some military or ruling background. I know this is probably because these are the people who had the history recorded, but it is an interesting contrast to the Persians, 4 are listed 3 are intellectuals, a theologian and jurist, a physician, and a poet. There are a handful of Middle Easterners and Asians, not nearly so many as Europeans, but they also follow the European pattern, mostly the ruling elite. Not sure what this means, I know Persia has a long history of civilization, but the sample size maybe too small to mean much.

I had to look up s'amores. I had never heard of them! I think I would be more tempted by pickles ;)
