My wrist is killing me-advice?

I fell riding my mountain bike over a month ago. I fell with my body weight caught by my hands flat on the ground. Nothing other than the bruising of one hand and the wrist of the other got hurt.

Initially the wrist felt like no big deal, something that would heal within a week or so but I'm still struggling with the same rotten injury over a month later. Sometimes it limits what I can do. I still cannot put much weight on it, and if I do I pay for it royally (did some pushups and now its killing me). The pain is located at the end of the Ulna (pinkie side of arm) and seems to radiate from there into the carpal bones and then conversely I have some pain up the forearm kind of between the radius and ulna, but only an inch or so up.

I'm now debating whether I should go in to check this out. Is this an injury that would be a slow healer just based on using those muscles and bones so much and an active lifestyle? Or should I be concerned?

Well, I never had any falling kind of injury on my wrist but I did have tendonitis. The biggest mistake I made was continuing to try to do stuff with it. I tihnk you should have it looked at, or at least stop doing things that involve that hand (even squeezing with the fingers) for 2 weeks. After I let mine alone for a while it got alot better.

However, tendonitis and impact based injuries aren't too similar.

I would get it checked out. If you had a fracture it should have healed by now, but without seeing you I can't say much. It could also be inflammation in ligaments or tendons which can take a along time to heal. Motrin plus healt/ice usually helps, along with rest. Hope it is better soon

inflammation in tendons like tendonitis? I don't think you get that from impact. But if you do have tendonitis, expect to have a weaker wrist for... well forever. I got tendonitis a few times and it never went away.

Yes i would def get it checked out, was almost certain it was a scaphoid fracture untill you said it hurt on the ulna side. Could still be a fracture, check it out because some parts are not very vascular and can lead to necrosis of some of the carpal bones..

The more I think about it Sparrow, based on where your pain is you could have damaged the complex of ligaments and cartilage on the ulnar side of your wrist. It is a common sports injury in gymnastics etc., due to landing on an outstretched hand. I believe most pratitioners would opt for conservative treatment, but you still should get it evaluated to get an accurate diagnosis. I also agree with Matt about the risk of avascular necrois, but I am leaning towards betting on a ligament/cartilage injury based on the description of the injury.
See a doc :)

You have to get it checked! You might have worse problems than you think, and the safest thing to do is to check it...
