How professional is your personal trainer?

I recently joined a gym and signed up a personal trainer. Never before had a trainer ever commented about how my curves "fill" out my "Lululemon spandex tights". [First of all, my Lululemon is not your traditional spandex tights, but are much classier.]

Have any of you ladies ever had a trainer or gym memeber comment on your work out clothing? Is it normal in such an environment? Are these places considered a 'meat market'?

I'd refuse to wear anthing that is unflattering, but that's my prorogative. Should I take these advances as complements, or should I report esp. the trainers one time off the cuff remarks?
 
So your trainer said you look good in your workout clothing? Did it come with a cheesy wink and bad body jewelry, cause if so report it right now!

Seriously though, if you trainer makes you feel uneasy, get a new one. I don't know if I would report someone for that, that seems a bit extreme to me. However, you should be comfortable, especially for a service you pay for.
 
No wink. It was part of assessment. He said I looked athletic, flexible, and would be an easy student as it looks like I take good care of my body and my choice of clothes accentuates my body. It was flattering, but am not sure if was totally appropriate.

I would feel more 'sexy' if said by someone other than my trainer, that's all.

there's a large selection of gym's here in my town. when i was looking, the one place was total meat-market. 20 people inside and only 1 or 2 on the machines, everyone else chatting it up, makeup on, etc. the gym i joined is totally serious, rarely anyone talking, and no makeup on anyone that i can tell. so there are "bad" gyms out there.

i don't think his comments were inappropriate. sounds like he wanted to give you a compliment to make you feel good. he may not even have meant it, ha! i think if he said you were hot/beautiful or openly flirting as was mentioned that that would definitely be inappropriate. i think if he said something like that again though i'd start to question it...and of course if you're not comfy, get someone else!

The bit about saying your clothes accentuate your body is a little inappropriate but sometimes people say things that sounded better in their head if you know what I mean.
If I were you I'd let that comment go but if he says anything else that makes you uncomfortable then either let him know or get a new trainer
 
Wonder if there's a double standard. If a guy had a female trainer comment he has great buldges (meaning anything from stong arms, iron board stomach to well endowed family jewels), he would take it as a complement and only brag about the complement and never think of taking issue with management.

Not all men would like it if a personal trainer commented on his family jewels :) I personally wouldn't care about the comment so long as it was a joke but it make some people uncomfortable so you shouldn't do it.

I've never seen a female trainer in my gym comment on a mans physical appearance, it's not proffesional
 
He might very well have been trying to make an innocent compliment in an attempt to put you at ease. Many women, even if they look good, feel uneasy in a gym, and he may have been trying to pump you up a bit.

It wouldn't be the first time a man said the wrong thing while trying to make a woman feel good.
 
I go to the gym to workout!!!!! I don't think of the gym as a meat market. I get pissed off when guys hit on me there. I train at a seriouse gym but still get un-wanted attention. If you are unhappy with your trainer, personaly I would be if he commented on what I wear to train, then change him!!!!

I love my personal trainer. He's so motivating and our personalities clicked right from the start. I was apprehensive about training with a guy, but he's got the right personality for his job. He's totally professional, but we've become really good friends. He's all about body and mind. I'm getting the best results so far working with this guy.
 
Like it or not, there is a double standard that pervades when it comes to inappropriate dialogue or behavior. Having been on the the receiving end of unwelcome "compliments" related to my bodily form and being butt-patted by some females at a gym, while I trained in compression gear, it's disturbing to see the generalization or allusion here that inappropriate comments only happen to women. Once, twice, I took it on the chin. But it got to a stage when the only recourse I had was to take the matter up with gym management. The female manager at the time responded with a chuckle and trivialized my experiences. To cut a long story short, I ended up going to another gym. I don't waste time picking up at gyms.
