Question Regarding Muscle Atrophy

Hi I am new here my name is Kyle. I have just run into a problematic situation. About a year and a half ago I started a journey in which I lost 85 lbs in about 8 months. Since then I have kept the weight off my running consistently. A little less then a year ago I starting lifting and have put on about 20 pounds of muscle since then.

Because of stupidity, I had a major shoulder dislocation about 5 months ago. I was in denial and did not get it checked out. About 3 more dislocations later, I found out that I need arthroscopic shoulder surgery to help strengthen my tendons. All I can think about is how much my new muscles are going to atrophy, how much speed is going to come off my split time.

Does anyone have any advice regarding how I could someone stay in shape while on the sidelines. Looking on the internet it seems I will have to keep my shoulder semi-immobilized for around a month, then do physical therapy for a couple months after that.

Thank you!

This is just a setback. When you are talking about being immobilized there will be atrophy. There is not much you can do about that.

Stay positive. Listen to your physical therapist. When you are cleared for exercise again, train smart and you will be fine. A few months off compared to a lifetime of working out in the future will not be much of a setback in the end.

You will come back and be better than before.
