need help...*weight lose goal*

ok so I am an 18 years old(about 5'9) and plan on joining the navy. I currently weigh about 207 lbs and need to get that down by probably 30 more lbs before i feel im ready to go into the navy. My excercise plan is like this...
-Around 5pm i run to a mountain thats approx 1 mile from my house
-I hike the mountain which takes around 20 minuntes to reach the top then i hike down which usually takes about 10 more minutes
-I walk over to the drinking fountain and get a drink
-from there i run home taking a different path which is approx 1.2 miles
round trip is 45-50 minutes

before bed i always try to do pushups and crunchs
3 sets of 20 pushups and 3 sets of 60 crunchs (approximatly)

before i started running i weighed 235 and was winded after running a block so i HAVE seen some results buuuuuuuuut right now it seems i am continuing in a stalemate. i keep bouncing between 205-212. I believe it might be my daily diet/water intake. i only drink about 1-2 water bottles per day which im pretty sure i should be drinking more and i try to drink a slimfast every once in a while. BTW what is the majority opinion on slimfast and such? i also take multivitamins everyday on a regular basis.

ANY tips will be VERY appreciated. I currently do no have access to a gym and have no way of getting a membership right now.($$$)

Im brand new here so i dont know exactly how this works but im hoping for some good input :D
thanks in advance

What's your diet like? When you're running and hiking what's your heart rate?

Is there a way that you can incorporate some more weight training?

I also noticed you're measuring your progress just by the scale--can you see if you're losing fat by using a body-fat scale or fat calipers? Do you feel better in general?

A park close to my house has a fitness trail. You run it and along the way, there are bases to stop at and do various things like chin-ups, pull-ups, inclined sit-ups--stuff like that. So since you're running in between the bases, it's a bit of interval training--and you can bump up the intensity of that depending on what you want to put into it. It's a nice diversion/change out of the ordinary. Maybe there's something like that nearby to help you out with structure & consistency.

About water, it does sound like you need to have more. I drink about 16oz about 15 minutes before I go to the gym. While I'm exercising, I drink ~32oz. Right after I exercise, I have more water--probably about 20oz. Throughout the day, I drink another ~64-72oz as either water and green or ginger tea.

I've never done slimfast or supplemental meals like it. I don't know--they've just never appealed to me and seemed kind of like short-cut or a cheat. And they're expensive. :)

like zeroth says...what's your daily food intake look like? be DETAILED AND SPECIFIC in the response...if you can tell us you eat a 5oz steak at lunch and a potato the size of your fist that'll help us a lot.

Also your water intake should be at least 1gallon per day, not 16-20 oz.

my diet consists of usually 1-2 slim fasts a day, usually a meal that i can cook like macncheese or some rice, a bananna or 2 between meals. i pretty much gave up fast food all together unless im on a road trip which is only once and a great while and even then i watch how much i eat from those places. I also no longer drink soda at all. I realized i didnt need it and its not so good for me. ill have to get back to you on the heart rate...but i can assure you im pushing myself everytime...i always am trying to beat my previous round trip time.

well...like i said i dont have any access to a gym but i do i have farely light curl bar...starts to burn after doing like 30 reps with it :)

somebody in my house has a scale that measures bodyfat...not sure how accurate it is but ill have to try it out. Well ya...i can really tell on the runs/hikes that im getting in better shape. im getting faster and my times are improving

well the park that i run to has a trail sorta like this but that trail you speak of isnt very spread out so its not much of a run in-between.

ill definetly work on my water problem. im addicted to lipton green tea...got anything to say on that? haha i know theres lots of sugar in it and probably more bad stuff...but hey i like it :)

well the only reason i like it is because its a fast on the go meal thats supposedly healthy for me...it has lots of vitamins and some potassium and all that good stuff in it. i cant always put together a healthy meal so it just makes it easy for me.

ya ill have to work on my water intake big time. as for the food intake...it always varies...i dont have 1 set meal each day eexcept for maybe slimfast :(
im also pretty sure i need to work on gettin breakfast early enough. i unfortunatly like to sleep in...which usually puts me waking up around 10-10:30...which is when i first eat breakfast or drink a slimfast. iv always been a picky eater but i do try to broaden my horizons by trying stuff i used to not like and getting myself used to it. i sometimes eat tuna fish sandwichs for lunch which are pretty good i must say. hope anything of what i just said helps you to help me in some way

I'd suggest pushing your cooking skills, and making something more nutritious than mac and cheese. Also, add vegetables and fruits and more protein to your diet.

I agree with Nicole's assessment of SlimFast, but I'd also add that any natural food is better for you than a similar processed food. That said, whole, natural foods are the most efficient way to get to where you want to be.

Turkey Chili

As some around this site know already - I make turkey chili using 99% fat free ground turkey. The only cooking skill you need is peeling and chopping up 1 onion, and then browning the turkey and onion in a skillet. Drain it, and put that and all the other ingredients in a crockpot. Tasty, healthy and filling - try it.

how so? isnt there some nutritional value in it?

Would you eat rat poison? What if it was fortified with vitamin C, D, E and lots of potassium? You probably still wouldn't touch it right? Well it's the same thing with many meal replacements. They are basically chemicals and unnatural food sources with added vitamins to make the products appear healthy. I think SlimFast loves high fructose corn syrup and uses it in a lot of their products. An ingredient which is linked to everything from irritable bowel syndrome to obesity.

I don't have a can or one of their bars at hand to look at but I bet if you listed off the ingredients in one of them I could point out many things wrong with it. Unless just looking at the list of scary ingredients is enough to persuade you :D

(btw holy crap that took a long time to type)

First off, like the third ingredient is sugar. I would say that's an awful lot of sugar. I'm sure you can do better as far as quality of carbs go.

Well the worst ingredient in there is the hydrogenated soybean oil which means trans fat. Trans fat is a manmade fat that is the worst kind of fat out there and is literally illegal in some countries. I'm sure you've heard something about it on the news (with New York trying to ban it in restaurants). If not I can probably find something online really quick for you to read. Seriously, it's so godawful I won't touch anything that contains it.

if you think that hydrogenated soybean oil is bad, google canola (rapeseed oil). The fructose is really bad because all sugars raise our beta-endorphin levels and when we stop using them, the brain begs for more (just like a drug).
The sucralose and acesulfame potassium (nonnutrutve sweeteners), have all kinds of health warnings attached to them. acesulfame potassium was developed as a pesticide to kill ants and it will if you sprinkle a package anywhere in a room where you find them. Research showed that sucralose caused shrunken thymus glands (up to 40% shrinkage) and enlarged liver and kidneys.
You can make your own shake with protein powder naturally sweetened with stevia, Optimum Nutrition makes it. I have recipes if you would like some ideas.

?

Don't know why your trying to lose weight for the NAVY they are all fat on that side of military anyways. But seriously, Cut calories to a low/healthy level, maintain cardio routine 5-6 times per week 20-60 minutes per session, HIIT is recommended cause that will take weight off faster than low-intensity will, drink plenty of water, eat 4-5 proportional meals with proper nutrition to feed your muscles. Bada bing your at 180 before you know it. Peace i'm out. Persistance is key. Hang in ther NAVY.

P.S. Why does the navy used powder soap?................Its harder to pick up. LOL
