Hello from New Kid on the Block

Hello, I'm Mike (SgtTTTT, Marooned Mike).

I have an interest in various areas of fitness, but primarily weight-training.

I used to be a long-distance runner until multiple injuries slowed me down (now I cycle a bit). Also, I developed several muscle-imbalances in my early days & I'm working on correcting the situation (such as I did so many push-ups & so few rows & reverse-flys that now my shoulders pop out of joint easily; a specialist doctor at the VA recently explained how a body benefits by having the back & rear-delt muscles tighter/stronger than the chest muscles -- shoulders don't pop-out to the rear because the shoulder blades prevent this, but there's no bones to prevent the chest muscles from pulling them inward & foreward out of socket).

I've learned some & still have more to learn. Another for-instance: just yesterday I learned that doing an exercise using a "full range-of-motion" didn't mean what I thought it meant -- for a curl I thought that meant from touching the thighs & on up, but it turns out that the weight should not be fully lowered (keeping the muscle under tension & not locking the arms)... I wondered why an elbow started giving me problems (now I know, at least in part why).

I hope to glean some good ideas/info from forum members here & offer my experiences (both good & bad) to help both myself & others with similar interests.

Marooned (Coming Up for Air Now) Mike
