My training at the moment....

Ello, im new here.

Well, im leaving for the british parachute regiment on the 28th jan to begin basic training, i was just woundering if you guys could go over my programe.

My best 1.5 mile run was in 9.09, i would like to improve this to 8.30/8.45:

Weekly Training

Monday: 4 miles including hills
Tuesday: Upper body circuit training/crunches
Wednesday: 4 miles
Thursday: 4 miles/crunches
Friday: upper body circuit training
Saturday: crunches
Sunday: 4 miles

Before selection i was up to 5 miles daily, but then i damaged my hamstring quite badly just after i passed selection, so i should be back up to 5 miles instead of 4 next week.
I just bassically would like to know if this is improving my overall stamina and fitness, will this improve my 1.5mile time if i keep adding an extra mile each week?

Thanks for taking the time to read this.

What are your stats (age, height, weight, body fat)? Knowing that would help, but not knowing that I would tend to recommend something more like this to prepare for boot camp, although 2 months is not a lot of time to make a big change:
MWF - whole body weight lifting
TTh - 20 minutes of HIIT
Saturday - long slow run (work up to at least 10K/6 miles)
Sunday - rest
You need to strengthen your legs and core as well as your upper body. Some sprints will also help increase your aerobic and anerobic fitness without taking up a lot of time and energy, and one long run a week is enough to keep your distance endurance improving.

I do 3 sets of maximum crunches (around 20x3) , i got a bit of a flabby belly. ho ho ho.

Cheers for replies.

I have been reading my dads programme, and it only concentrates on specific muscles once a week. (circuit training)

Any more info will be greatly appreicated as im still in mixed minds about what routine to make.

Thank you.

yep well... being in the army myself, i suggest focusing more on good stamina than muscle strength. Run 3-4 times a week, that's what we did during the first 4 months in the army. The length varied, everything from 3 to 10 kilometers. The speed also varied. I think its the variety of each run that eventually improves your fitness. But by looking at your program, i think you work out too much. I used to work out that much as well, and it only damaged me. Your feet will break!

edit: by running this often, i improved my cooper result from 2550m to 2940m in 3 months. Best thing that ever happened to me in the army :p

yea, its all about stamina and very little about strength in the army. Esp if you look at special forces like SAS etc, small guys all of 'em.
Maybe replace two of your runs with HIIT sessions
