Sauna

My buddy has a sauna right next to his workout room. I was wondering what the up sides and the down sides are to hitting the sauna after a workout?

It makes you tired I know that

It makes you lose lots of water. This is why you're tired. Basically, it makes you start constant and ub3r fast dehydration.

I guess there's muscle relaxation somewhere in there too. Not to mention being in a boiling hot room with super sexy 80 year olds.

Actually it makes you tired due to vaso dilation, due to the vaso dilation blood pressure drops resulting in a feeling of tiredness. Just like when you lay down to go to sleep your blood pressure drops and there is less resistance for the heart to pump against.

Right, and it doesn't have anything to do with the fact that you're dehydrating jugs of water.

It's a combination of both.

If you have just had a workou then you dont want to get in a hot sauna.

Personally It makes me feel sick, but mainly cos it will dehydrate you. No water - no muscle growth.

Stick with, cold shower 2mins, hot shower 2mins, cold shower 2mins.

Lewis, have you tried the contrast shower method above? Ive heard about it.. havent really tried it out yet. Did you notice faster recovery? were you able to do more in you're workouts because you recovered quicker?

Karky - Slight help with recovery, nothing you would notice. I mainly do it for a deep clense. The cold wakes you up, then the hot opens up your pores (this is when you wash, the the cold closes your pores again.

If you have a hot shower without a cold one your pores stay open for longer and the bacteria from your towel will infect the pores giving you spots.
