Help with shoulder/back imbalance...first post

This is my first post....I am 35 years old have been working out now pretty regularly for about 15 years with the normal ups and downs (6'5" with as little as 8% body fat at 210lbs to 16% body fat at 200 lbs). Right now I am kind of in between. In the last 12 months something has happened and I can not figure out how to correct it. My shirts always want to 'fall back' on me. When I am wearing t-shirts, the shirt falls back and the front of the collar 'chokes' me and I am always tugging them forward. What have I failed to workout and what is needed to correct this problem? I have lost quite a bit of thickness in my back, could this be contributing? Any thoughts and specific exercises to help remedy 'my choking' problem would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!!!

I have that problem with some shirts, I think it is more the cut of the shirt than your body. Remember most clothes are made to fit the average body, in the large sizes that generally is someone with a pot belly and/or man boobs. You can even buy 2 pieces of clothing made by the same manufacturer in the exact same size and have them fit completely differently.

I guess from a body proportion point of view, if you have large traps and a small rib cage and/or small pecs your shirts would tend to ride back. At 35+ there is probably not much you can do to increase the depth of your rib cage, but you can add some size to your pecs and increae the total protrusion of the front of your chest, which would tend to make your shirts ride forward more. So bench, dip, pull up, bent row (and of course squat and deadlift) and you will add some muscle mass and help the problem. OR just keep shopping for shirts that do fit properly.

are you buying a lot of the same brand of shirt?

cuz i have shirts that choke me, and I have comfortable shirts too.

if anything i'd bet it was posture, but that could be related to strength imbalances...and bad posture can also cause imbalances, so...

Thanks guys....

No, it is pretty much all my shirts...three buttom polos, t's, and button up (not as much with button up). I am 6'5", but my posture is pretty darn good (I have played sports and been very active my entire life and I was raised with the attitude of 'no slouching'...my dad was worried because I was 6'5" in 8th grade and was afraid I would slouch to try to be shorter, but I never did - stand up tall with shoulders square, not rolled forward....). My chest is actually the thickest part of my upper body..I incline press, do incline dumbell flies, butterfly machine, chest press, flat bench and I make sure I always have shoulders 'down and pinched'. Maybe I should throw some decline and dips back in. I have always considered my back to lack depth. I am wide left to right, but not very 'deep' or thick front to back. It is almost becoming a compulsion as I look at 'normal' guys and wonder why their shirts fall correctly....oh well, I was hoping for "I know exactly what you need to do....". Wishful thinking....thanks again. If anyone has any other thoughts, let me know, but I will start working lower chest some more alone with really isolating my trap to try to thicken it up.
