Which burns more?

Which burns more? 45 minutes of running at moderate speed outside (ncluding uphill and downhill) or 2 hours of whole body weight training?

Why would you work out for 2 hours? Ultimately, the weight training will do far more for your physique than the moderate running will...but 2 hours is pointless for a general conditioning program.

who could argue with Bipenn on this one.

but to answer the question, more energy would be expended in 2 hours of weight training, assuming you could maintain high intensity for the entire two hours...which is highly unlikely.
plus you'd be tearing down muscle tissue during much of the second hour unless you're consuming a proper shake after the first 60 mins.

no matter how you slice it, its a bad idea.

1 hr of weight training or abit less will burn more overall calories than moderate running would anyway.

i end up weight training for around 70mins. i use alot of machines and make sure my muscles get a rest inbetween so it takes a long time to get all the exercises done. im assuming thats what he means by weight training for 2hrs

Thats right.. when i weight train for 2 hours thats because i do all the muscles... as compound exercises, i do bench press and chin ups... also i do 2 kids of squats... and i know chin ups andbench press already work my biceps and triceps... but i still think that theyre not worked enough thats why i also concentratedon those muscles.. to work everything... so including all the rests in between and some exercises on the mat, it takes me 2 hours.. So if i keep doing this and not a lot of cardio, would this make ma lose a lot of fat and get leaner? Im not fat right now and i have muscular upper body and legs but i have some fat below my belly button, soi was wondering if i do 2 hours of weight training, hence burn a lot of calories, would that make me lose overall bodyfat faster than running?

Again, if you are spending significantly more than roughly 60 minutes, then you aren't understanding program design. You would get far better results using a professionally written routine. Try here:

If it's taking you two hours to work out, then I think your body will benefit better from splits. If you do a two day split, that would cut your workout time in half, and because it's two days in a row, then rest, your body will be burning more fat this way. After about an hour of hard weight training your muscles can't perform at their full potential unless you are taking a protein/carb drink half way.

Trust me, doing that with out the drink, would be doing your body more harm than good. So my suggestion as ive already said is to do a two day split, working different muscles on those days, and your body will much more benefit from this type of training.

Goodluck.

Two hours is too much

I agree with bipennate... if it's taking you that long than you are not understanding the basics of a strength training program.
