Any exercises to target different parts of your abs?

^^My abs, the right hand side doesn't look right, probably genetic, but nevertheless the top muscle looks to small. Is there any way I can target it to build it up? Also the middle muscle appears bigger, maybe making up for the top one. Could this cause any damage in the future?
Thanks.

The Abdominus Rectus is a single sheet of muscle. You can't build up distinct regions of a single muscle. Sorry. I would say, simply do crunches and bridges and planks and make your core area strong.

That's partly my problem, the core area just isn't strong. Or doesn't seem to be. But I was sure that you could work different parts of you abdominal area, my mistake then?

You can target more emphasis on the external obliques, but not upper and lower abs, which don't exist.

hmmm, they are all the one muscle but surely you can target different areas of it? for example, when i do ordinary crunches i feel the upper part being worked the most while when doing leg raises i feel the lower parts being worked most.

woodt - i can't see your picture because it says it has been removed but yes it could just be genetics. could it be possible that there is more fat over the upper abs? other than to keep training i don't know what to suggest.

Yes, because they are getting worked most, but that doesn't mean you're isolating a region. It because that area is either tight or underworked in the past, but it's not going to grow more in comparison to another area of the abs. The Rectus Abdominus is one muscle and it's grows as one muscle.

Lou Schuler explains it pretty well in "New Rules of Lifting," calling counterfeit body parts. You feel it work in "upper abs" but it's just psychological, and perhaps a sign of some other, possibly dangerous problem.

Re-post of the pic. I don't think they look quite like that normally. But very similar.

That's genetic. If all else fails, I'd say put on fat until your abs disappear. The level required to hide abs is not unhealthy, about 12% or so.
