Food for an IT professional

I realize and have learned that a lot of food has different properties for different activities. While I'm not terribly overweight (Current 207 and am 6 ft 1) I'd like to know a few foods I could eat due to my profession which is Information Technology. I rarely get up and walk around due to my work but I do get out at night time for about 30 minutes. I get my breaks and lunch but I'd like to get a little more 'tone' especially around the gut area (not waist). I tend to wear my pants a little lower than average people I believe due to my gut.

As a past history note: January 1st of last year I weighed 282 and wore 40/42 pants. Now I'm 207 and wear 34/36 pants.

congrats on the weight loss. May I ask what it was you changed to help lose all the weight?

It was a combination of things really. I cut out soda's (big issue there) but then I started doing something that actually 'made since' and worked for my body.

When I went to say like a resteraunt I would eat the food that I wanted. Then when I burped, I stopped eating. Didn't matter how much was left. Surprisingly that cut a HUGE amount of weight off.

I also am fortunant to live about 1 mile away from a subway (Thanks Jarred) so I walk there.

Also this is going to sound completely unhealthy but I knew my control environments and took procautions. Sauna's. Great way to sweat away excess salt from the body right? Well now that I drink water what I did was instead of joining a gym, I sat in my car with the heat on. I would do this for about 20 minutes or so then take a cold shower to rince off. Worked great! But I did that every other day on my off from walking.

Now I'm looking for foods I can eat that revolve around my livelyhood of having a sitting desk job.

I eat only when I'm hungry too.

a sauna is not a fat loss device tweaker...it just makes you sweat. any weight lost is water weight, and losing too much water = severe dehydration (hence why sauna's usually have a 15 min max time allowed).

diet is great, but it doesn't make you physically fit...walking doesn't give you a cardio workout if your heart rate isn't getting up into the proper range.

get some weights...start lifting.
eat 5-6 times a day, nice small meals that contain protein and carbs, especially veggie and fruit carbs, as opposed to bread, pasta, potatoes, etc.

as for a desk job...prep meals the day before, and use Gladware and a microwave.

the nutrition section fully covers the types of things you should and should not be eating.

Yeah, check out the nutrition thread for healthy foods to eat at work. But seriously dude, you need to do something outside of work. Building lean muscle mass will kick up your metabolism, and will burn calories around the clock. Try a full body routine 3x a week, with a rest day between workout days. Body For Life, HGM, anything by Chad Waterbury, Lou Shouler, or Alwyn Cosgrove would be good.

And PLEASE don't do the 'steaming in the car' thing anymore!

Yeah i agree. This does nothing for you. If you really want to get rid of excess water weight DRINK WATER...lots of it. Not only will it keep you hydrated. its a LOT more effective at flushing out water weight than just sweating.

I could help you lose ten pounds instantly by cutting off your head.

losing water weight and calling it 'weight loss' is meaningless. one day of too much salt, and you'll bloat back up with water.

fat and lean muscle mass are all that matter in weight loss. if you aren't altering either of those, you aren't doing anything.

congrats on dieting down to 207...but its time to kick it up a notch and actually workout.
