Soup or Salad?

Ok, so I was wondering if I could have a can of Pregresso chicken noodle soup rather than my usual salad with chicken. For one CAN of soup, there is:

Cals: 220
Carbs: 28g
Protein: 16g

What do you think? Should I stick with my salad?

Hi Wendy, I personally would go with the soup especially if you are getting a little tired of the salad routine.
Also if working out later the carbs in the soup may give you a little more energy than a simple salad. Just my opinion.

Thanks! I just may do that! (Although I already worked out today.)

Soup or salad

I am trying to keep a food log so I am really looking at labels. I couldn't believe it when I saw that a can of progresso soup is for TWO people. I can eat a can myself. Also, the sodium is very high. I am new to this and haven't gotten myself trained enough to eat just a salad for lunch. I need FOOD. Ever since I started looking at labels, I am obsessing on food.

I never thought I could fill up on salad for lunch, esp since I dont' include a lot of veggies in it. LOL I have lettuce, chicken, cheese, sometimes light croutons, and sm amt of dressing. The chicken def helps me fill up. Sometimes I can barely finish it.

Actually you are doing the right thing when you read the labels. You need to know what exactly what you are eating. Wendy, I hate to say this but the salad is your better choice. That canned soup is loaded with sodium, not really what you want.

The point I made by choosing the soup was it would add a little variety. It appeared that you may be bored with salad all the time. I know if I get bored with my diet I am more likely to slip or cheat.
A little variety breaks up the boredom, that's all.

I agree that varying the diet is important but canned soups are just so not worth there salt...pun intended;)

However If its soup you crave may I make a suggestion of a way to have it but do it more healthy?

Chicken Noodle Soup
-2 Can of low/no sodium chicken broth
-2 chicken breasts cooked (just 25-30 mins in the oven is all you need)
-3 full carrots cut into circle slices
-1 cup of green peas
-parsley,white pepper,rosemary to flavor
-Whole grain noddles of choice (cook and set aside when soup is almost done)

Just heat up the broth with the carrots, when they get close to desire texture add the chicken, spices and peas and let simmer for little longer. Add the noodles and there you go.

Still some sodium but not as much and whole grain noodles and good chicken meat. Also because its better and lower in badness you can have a little more;)

Great recipe!!! I have been looking for a good homemade chicken noodle soup recipe! Thanks!

Just wanted to add that it depends on the rest of the day's food. Salad is usually better than soup... but it depends what's in that salad :)

Salad is pretty bare, actually. I usually only have lettuce, chicken, cheese and sm amt of dressing. That's it.

Ah, dress it up! Bed of lettuce, mandarin oranges, sliced almonds, chicken slices... all topped with either cottage cheese or cranberry vinegarette. :D
