Sport Devil's Drink:

Aka Soda/Pop/Coke/what-have-you. My suspect to be the root of most obesity (to those who drink it). And aside from that, many people who do drink it don't eat well enough anyway. Any input?

Well sodas dehydrate you, so that could contribute in part to health problems.

I wouldn't blame pop though, I think instead that the amount of soda consumption indicates a person's lifestyle. Someone who is obese and drinks a lot of pop is probably less likely to exercise regularly. Likewise, someone who is very health conscious is probably at least cutting down their intake.

That's just my humble opinion, but it's probably at least partially right!

yea.. i dont think soda is the only link to obesity that hits close to home but i think it plays a part in it.. aside form being dehydrated drinking something that packs that much sugar and carbs (not to mention the other "ingredients") can't be good especially when it doesnt fill you up.

I think it greatly contributes to obesity and I also agree with the other posts about how frivolous regular soda consumption is a direct correlation to a person's lifestyle and habits he or she may have that affects their activity/nutrition and all that..

So I would agree because my Dad he is really muscular..he's always wondering why he can't get rid of his belly even though he is active ALL day long..and then I see him drink about a 2 liter of regular Dr. Pepper a day.

Then again...I see these uber-skinny people running around chugging all kinds of high-cal stuff and eating anything sugary they get their hands on and not gain an ounce!! that one make me mad actually lol.

I drink a can of coke every day with my dinner, I really enjoy it and as long as you have a healthy lifestyle it wont make much diffrence.
you gotta treat yourself of you will stop dietting all together.

I think obesity has more to do with high fructose corn syrup than soda. Neither is good for you, but hfcs hides in so many places you would never expect.

I ABSOLUTELY agree. When I first became aware of corn syrup in foods (about 2 years ago) and started looking to avoid it, I had a hard time finding stuff to eat! Its even in a lot of store-bought breads. Can you believe that?

Oh my gosh! Breads, yogurts, juices, pasta sauces, tv dinners, cereals, on and on and on! My understanding is that hfcs was approved for use in foods in the 70's. That also seems to be when obesity rates started to rise. I think I read that the more hfcs is in a product the more it triggers cravings for that product. I've been accused of being a little paranoid, but I think I smell a conspirocy!:D
