Which one is the right one?

I can't seem to decide on an ab/other muscles workout. It's hard to sort out the hype in magazines, what with all the "get flat abs in four seconds or less" stuff. Does anyone know a good solid strength circuit for someone with not a lot of strength or muscle that will still have results?
thanks!

buy mens fitness and follow what ever they have for that month. Its gonna be basic and maybe not a perfect workout but for abegginer its better that you follow somthing like that and learn what your doing. Then you can change and change untill you find a program you like.

Dont do any womens workouts, they are for girls. Tho mens muscles grow faster and stronger, our bodys are both the same and should be worked the same.
I'll PM Jenn for you and make sure she doent miss this topic.

HEHE I'm following you manofkent :D try the home grown muscle routine on men's health. The first phase - the iron manual is awesome. It'll kick your ass if you don't wimp out and you lift heavy enough. I loved it and saw huge changes very quickly. Having said that I gave it 110% and busted my ass, lifted as heavy as I could for what it called for and stuck to it 100%. Give it a go. This will build your strentgh and strength endurance up. Blast body fat and tighten your bod like you would not believe. I'll find a link for ya if you want..

for any ab routine just make sure it has a leg raise variation, a twisting variation, a core / tension type exercise and an upper ab movement and u'll be set

Leg raises are often done incorrectly when meant for the abdominal musculature. They often hit the hip flexors to a great degree rather than the abs. There are also no upper or lower ab movements; the abdominals are one sheet of muscle and each abdominal exercise is going to hit the entire area. In other words, you cannot seperate lower/upper/middle/etc

If you really want to hit your core and posterior chain, take some zercher squats for a run. A individual's core could be weak even if doing abdominal movements.

Just to add in- I haven't seen the home grown workouts on the other forum- you'll want to work each major muscle group. In other words, be sure you're not just hitting the core or the abs.

I almost never follow women's magazines, but even I find a lot of men's magazines are getting a bit off track. Even Tom Venuto and a few other trainers are admitting that even though they write for these magazines... they have to keep it short and simple.

There's never enough room in a magazine to give the whole story. And besides month after month they hve to keep you buying.

I recommend a beginner full body routine 3 times per week if you're just starting out with weights. On days you are not doing strength training do a variety of cardio activities. Save one day for resting.

Hello,
As far as working your abs, the most important thing that you need to concentrate on is your form. Regardless of what type of ab exercise you are doing, you need to do it correctly. I often hear people saying that they did a 1000 crunches, but what they are doing is just going with momentum, they are not concentrating on the breathing, on squeezing the abs, etc.
As far as a good program, I follow Clark Bartram's I don't know if you have ever heard of him. Anyway he tells you exactly how you need to work your abs correctly. Here is the link to his program if you want to learn more about it: .
And as Trainer Lynn said, besides working your ab muscles, you need to train all your muscles. All the muscles are important.
