What I ate today

Nothing until about 3:30pm
2 ham, egg, and cheese breakfast hot pockets
wheat pasta with jar sauce and meatballs about 1 1/2 cups
1 slice whole grain white bread with canola butter
handful of pretzels w/ extra salt
2 handfuls of cheese curls
whole grain bagel with peanut butter and bananas and drizzled with chocolate sauce
1/2 gallon of water

So what do you all think?

You need more of this stuff:
Spinach
Kale
Broccoli
Brussel sprouts
Asparagus
Collard greens
Red peppers
Tomatoes
Yams & Sweet potatoes
Barley
Oatmeal (Old fashioned unsweetened)
Beans
Black eye peas
Slow cooked, brown rice (long grain/basmati)
Lentils

You need some serious help with your nutritional intake. Why did you not eat until 3:30? Hopefully you work the night shift and you sleep during the day! If not, you are killing your body and your metabolism by waiting so long to get food in your system.

Secondly, you can't just eat whole wheat stuff and think you are eating healthy. You have to add loads of natural, unprocessed foods. Eat things like lean meats, eggs, brown rice, whole wheats, tons of fruits and veggies.

You should also be eating upon waking, since your body is literally starving from the fasted state you just experienced while you were sleeping. You then need to eat every 3 hours or so.

What are you goals?

Not eating until 3:30 - Have you ever heard of night eating syndrome? Authorities on the subject are and have conducted studies and are trying to develop criteria to put it into the DSMV (book of psychological stuff that is used to diagnoise people). Anyway, morning anorexia, insomnia, and consuming over half of your calories after hours are three of the symptoms. So, there you have it. I'm really trying to turn it around. It causes weight problems for alot of people.

My goal: long term to lose 100 pds. atleast. Other than that, I don't have it all figured out. I don't have meals planned out. I was raised meat and potatoes, so I've got to do some research on what I should eat and make a plan. However I've been going to the gym for 3 weeks or so now. I only go a couple days a week, and I know to do cardio 5 and full body 3. So, I need to get my sh!t together.

This site and you people have really been a support for me. For that, Thank You.

What I ate today:

10:00 - two scoops of ice cream with carmel, choc. chips  (I know. My daughters graduation ice cream social)

2:00 - 2 slices whole grain white bread, mayo, turkey breast, spinach, 1 slice provolone

4:30 - 2 slices pan roast lean white meat turkey. mashed potatoes, gravy. carrots (canned).

- and, probably something else before bed

Actspire, hang in there you can do it!!:) BUT stop reading too much into what you learn(ed) in psych. class. This is the second time you've referenced it (I know you said you have a BA in Pshychology).

There is NO trickery in what it takes to lose weight; burn more calories than what you take in. Period. You need to condition your body, little by little to do what it takes to lose that much weight, 100 pounds is a large amount.

You need to completely cut out things like, pretzels with extra salt, cheese curls, chocolate sauce, hot pockets, even lean pockets.

Get yourself into a routine and you'll feel so much better!! Good luck!

actspire,

Regardless of your pseudo-diagnosis of yourself... you have to take control of what goes in your mouth. Quite honestly the menu you just posted is pretty sad.

I don't want to be negative, but words like gravy, mayo and ice cream aren't typically associated with a 100 pound weight loss. I don't know your stats, so I can't help much more with specifc advice.

I'm not sure if you got a little defensive or not when replying to stroutman81. We're just trying to help people find a solid path to fat loss- safe and effective fat loss.

You are totally right. Thank you for your honesty. NO Way was I getting defensive with stroutman81; I didn't mean it to be taken that way. I'm really greatful for all the advice. I know there's no way around it. I was just trying to explain why I think it might be difficult for me to get it right.
Again, I'm here because of you guys. I admire the people who have it together and those who are trying. I'm trying to learn how to get it together to. I've read how many other people you helped, and it's really remarkable.

P.S. Thank you King Bee for the list you wrote. I'm going to put it to use.

actspire....whew. Glad you weren't being defensive! And really glad you aren't mad at me :)

You can do it. There is an amazing community here (as you already know!). Best of luck to you. Let us know when you need some pointers/guidance.

Actspire. I think YOU should help motivate and inspire some of the people on this forum. Maybe you could challenge someone, for fun. For example: you pledge to eat a healthy breakfast before noon and a busy mom pledges to do an extra 15 minutes of cardio. Then you could pledge to give up your favorite "junk snack" and challenge a runner to go for an extra mile. It could be fun. I am game, if you are.

MoonBeam, You want to help me, help Actspire get started. I pledge to run 5 miles on the treadmill at an average speed of 6.3. I currently can do 3 miles and I will strive to do 5 miles within 2 weeks, starting 6/23/06.

Who is up next?

P.S. I am a 42 y/o asthmatic who just started getting in shape again about a month ago, so running is a big deal for me.

Wow, you're better off than me already LOL!

Ok, right now I'm only doing 1.5 miles when I run (the track)...I pledge to run 3 miles and I'll also give myself 2 weeks to do it.

I'll be honest too, if I can't do it I'll own up to it! :)

MoonBeam, I was bad this weekend, but will start in the AM

Hey? Where is Actspire????

If we lost him, we can start our own thread.

Bad this weekend, huh. I've been bad for the last 2 weeks. Eating only half descent, and not going to the gym. I avoided the gym for a week because of my menstural cycle, but...now I can't get myself back there again. Where has my groove gone? I'd pitch in on a challenge, but I don't think I'd feel held to it.
