Breakfast

Does anybody know any good ideas for breakfast? I used too eat plain oatmeal with some cinnamon, a packet of equal and a protein shake. I don't know what it is but now that I wake up earlier for work I cant stomach any of that anymore.

Try some egg whites with full fat cheese.

I usually mix up some quaker oats with skimmed milk and mix in a scoop of vanilla whey - tastes yummy but, might be a little stodgy for an early start. Alternatively, scrambled egg whites (with maybe 1 yolk) on wholemeal toast is reasonably light and tastes great too.

I make my own Egg Mcmuffin:

-1 whole wheat english muffin
-1 slice American cheese
-1/4 cup eggbeaters or eggwhites
-1 slice canadian bacon

Toast the english muffin, cook the eggbeaters and the canadian bacon in the microwave. Slap everything together and enjoy.

i make an omelette every morning

2 eggwhites
1/4 1% milk
fresh chopped tomatoes
shredded cheese
a couple of chopped spring onions, onions, pepper, and turkey

I still like my oatmeal (3/4 cup uncooked measure) I add 2 teaspoons sugar and 4 packets of sweet and low. I also have either 3 whole large eggs scrambled or bacon for protein. Holds me over real good until lunch.

I don't buy into the whole cholesteral myth so I eat my eggs yolk and all. I am a bit afraid of salomanila contamination in factory farm eggs though so I only eat them scrambled or hard boiled.

First of all--holy moly, that's a lot of sugary flavor. Cholesterol myth? There is cholesterol in egg yolks, as is there in any animal meat. It's biological. What's important is not eating a ton of it. A couple egg yolks in the morning? Probably not bad, as long as you aren't eating tons of red meat and bacon all day long. A lot of high cholesterol is based on genetics as well.

As for breakfast ideas, I like hemp bread with jam (high protein, very low calories and lots of fiber)--it doesn't taste great by itself, but with some all-fruit jam, it's pretty darn good. I'll also have 3/4 cup of homemade-ish yogurt (buy from health food store with active cultures--it's a little higher fat, but tastes incredible) and a cup of strawberries or a couple kiwis.

While I'm a big fan of eggs in the morning (I don't choose to eat the yolks because they up the fat content considerably as well as add additional calories I don't need, though every once in awhile I'll have a soft-set one with whole-grain toast), you can really eat anything. Sometimes I'll even have sushi for breakfast or miso soup. There is no rule that you can't have a sandwich!

Otherwise, there are more stand-bys--some people mix egg whites with oatmeal in a blender, then cook as you would a pancake. Top with sugar-free or all-fruit syrup, and you're golden. I also like breakfast burritos--

1/4 cup canned organic black beans, rinsed
2 Tb. fresh salsa (I like the stuff in the refrigerated section)
1 Tb. fat-free sour cream (or lean, if you prefer a little more flavor)
2 egg whites, scrambled with a couple tablespoons milk (mix together in a little bowl before cooking)
2 Tb. fat-free or reduced fat cheddar cheese (fat-free here actually tastes fine)

Roll up in an Ezekial 4:9 tortilla, whole wheat tortilla, or low-fat tortilla. I think it's approximately 400 calories or so, which is good for your first meal of the day.

And, in a pinch, I think a good protein shake is good:
1 cup mixed fruit (I prefer berries or mango), fresh or frozen
1/2 cup fruit juice (OJ works fine, as does apple)
1/2 cup buttermilk or soy milk (I prefer vanilla soy milk, fat-free)
1 large scoop protein powder
1 large scoop L-glutamine powder

Add fruit or soy milk to get the right consistency. Invest in a blender. It tastes about 60X better than the packaged shakes.

Breakfast options not listed already (remember with wrap you can through in onion, peppers, tomatos...)

-Whole wheat whey pancakes w/fruit
-chicken and egg(white) fajitas on whole grain wrap
-whole grain muffin and protein shake
-Kashi go lean waffles with sugar free syrup or fruit and protein shake
-peanut butter (natural) and banana pita w/protein shake
-egg (white) and cheese whole grain wrap
-eggs (white) with grits
-lean steak and egg wrap
-Cottage cheese scrambled eggs with whole grain toast
-french toast with splenda and honey (small amount)
-whole grain french Bruschetta (cheese, spinach, tomato) with protein shake

Just a few ideas, vary it up and remember that anything really can go into an omlette!

Oats with Pure Honey and Sultanas

I eat oats with dried sultanas and pure honey and add hot water. It tasts good!

How about good old fashioned cereal with skim milk? Is that bad?

Good old fashioned (instant) oats are the best cereal. Others have too much sugar, or even high fructose corn syrup, which is a no-no.
:)

So then I guess my 1 cup of Special K cereal with 1% milk and a banana cut up is not good.... Damn...and here I thought I was doing well!:(

That's not bad as long as you eat whole grain cereal with lots of fiber and very little sugar.
